Why do we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday whose celebration dates back to the 17th century. It’s named for Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who died on March 17, 492.
Boston is known for starting the American St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the 1700’s when dozens of Presbyterians that had emigrated from Ireland gathered to honor St. Patrick’s feast day.
While St. Patrick’s Day started as a religious celebration, now we use it as a day to celebrate Irish heritage, wear everything green, drink beer, and listen to Celtic-inspired songs.

Now that you have some music, let’s get to the St. Patrick’s Day workout. This workout is an old one that I dug up from my days working at the gym. The best part is that it can be done anywhere. All you need is some sort of step. (I refer to it as a box in the workout below.)
You may be thinking that you don’t have a step, but trust me, you do! You can use a park bench, curb, stair, or fitness step, whatever you have to make this work.

Below are examples of all the exercises. Feel free to comment or email me with questions.

To make it more appealing for your little ones, I named all of the exercises something fun to go along with the St. Patrick’s Day theme. Doesn’t a leprechaun lunge sound so much more fun than a regular lunge?
