5 Ingredient Protein Balls

You read that right, these 5 ingredient protein balls are the perfect snack and you only need 5 ingredients! Technically only 3 are necessary, but one packs in the protein and another adds some amazing Omegas that make this snack even healthier for you. I know you will LOVE this recipe and possibly try to come up with variations of your own once you make them the first time!

How I came to love these protein balls.

I started making these easy protein balls many, many years ago. Over time they have evolved into the recipe that I’m sharing with y’all today. I originally wanted something that would give me quick, easy energy while I was working as a personal trainer. With a 4am wake up call and teaching a couple classes a day, I needed the extra food to keep me going!

These 5 ingredient protein balls are the perfect snack with an added protein punch. My whole family loves them and they can be made with things on hand in your home! #proteinballs #proteinsnackrecipe #proteinsnack #healthysnack

The perfect pregnancy snack.

Then when I was pregnant with Chloe, I really needed the extra calories, protein and energy while working full time as trainer. These were such an easy solution, I could bring a few with me to much on when I needed it and I was fueling my body with good calories and protein that I needed since I had a severe meat aversion.

Fast forward 5+ years and now I’m pregnant with baby number 3 and I’m no longer training. These protein balls are exactly what I need still! I eat one of these first thing in the morning while I’m starting to drink my coffee. Did you know that protein can actually help curb morning sickness? Many people think that crackers are the trick, but in all actuality, it’s protein that can get you past the nausea. The only problem is that protein doesn’t generally sound good at all! I have found that these are the trick and help me so much!

The whole family loves them.

Now you don’t have to be a personal trainer or pregnant to enjoy these protein balls. Everyone in my family loves them and my son is asking for them all the time! They’re the perfect snack that doesn’t make you feel guilty and gives you just what your body needs.

Better yet, you can easily change the recipe to change up the flavor just enough to not get sick of them! Let me share the basic 5 ingredient recipe, then I’ll give you some of my favorite variations that we’ve been enjoying lately!

It really is that simple. I generally make a double batch with two different flavor combos just for fun. Speaking of flavor combos, here are a few different variations you can create!

Other Flavor Combos

Chocolate Hazelnut

Use chocolate protein powder and add a tablespoon or two of Nutella to your mixture. I personally remove the chocolate chips from this version.

Cafe Latte

Use coffee flavored protein powder! You can make it a mocha by combining half chocolate and half coffee or a vanilla latte with half coffee and half vanilla! I use the cafe latte flavored Shakeology to make mine. You can get yours here!

Pumpkin Spice

Add 1/4 cup canned pumpkin and 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice to original recipe listed above. If you don’t have the canned pumpkin, you can omit and add 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice for the extra pumpkin kick.

Get Creative!

There are tons of different flavor combos that you can come up with using this basic recipe as the base! Use your imagination and get creative by coming up with some of your own flavor combos.

Additional add ins: raisins, white chocolate chips, almond butter, flax seeds, coconut flakes, almond slivers, bits of dates or other dried fruits.

You can also ditch the protein powder if it’s not your thing. These Vegan Energy Balls are similar, but with a few different ingredients.
