Today I can’t wait to share some easy, delicious smoothie recipes as well as tips to building your own favorites at home. I have been craving smoothies a lot lately. This tends to happen a lot during the summer and even more during pregnancy. I Think the cold temperature, sweet taste and texture is really satisfying.

It’s also a great way for me to get fruits, veggies and protein without having to eat a huge meal. My stomach is already not into eating much at once., so it’s convenient that I’m craving smoothies. Smoothies are so good for you plus there are tons of heart healthy options.
Every day we have countless choices of what foods to put in our bodies. Did you know that some choices could help to lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart related disease? Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber and phytoestrogens are just a few nutrients found in these heart superfoods. When looking for heart healthy options, whole foods are the way to go. The less processed, the better! Salmon, almonds, oatmeal, blueberries, spinach, sweet potatoes and even dark chocolate are a few with the best hearty healthy nutrients.

Here’s what you need to create the most delicious smoothie:
Choose your wet ingredient and use about 1 cup:
You make need a little more than a cup. If you notice your blender struggling to blend, just add a splash more to help create the perfect texture.
- Water
- Almond/Coconut milk
- Regular milk
- Juice (apple, orange, specialty juices, etc.)
Choose your frozen fruits 1/4-1 cup depending on how many you choose:
- Banana
- Orange
- Blueberries
- Strawberries
- Mango
- Peaches
- Avocado
- Other
Choose your veggie (Optional):
- Spinach
- Kale
- Butternut squash

Choose additional Optional ingredients:
- 1 tsp Chia seeds
- 1 tsp Flax seeds
- Scoop Protein powder or smoothie blend mix
- 1-2 tbsp oats
- Flavoring extracts such as vanilla, almond or peppermint
- Other
Put it all together:
Add all ingredients into your blender with several ice cubes. Ice cubes are optional, but I like them to give my smoothies more volume. If you like a creamier smoothie, omit the ice cubes. Mix all ingredients until blended extremely well. Pour into your favorite cup/mason jar/mug and enjoy!
In short, here is the equation to a perfect smoothie:
Liquid + frozen fruit + veggie + other ingredients (optional) + ice cubes + blender = Deliciousness

Orange Summer Smoothie
- 3/4 cup of Orange or Carrot/Orange juice
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1 cup frozen Peaches
- 1/2 frozen Banana
- 1 tsp Chia seeds
- Several (5-7) ice cubes
Protein Meal Replacement

Sometimes you need a quick and easy protein meal replacement smoothie. These are great for breakfast or lunch and are not only packed with protein, but other nutrients that your body needs. My favorite protein meal replacement option is Shakeology! In fact, I have a bag of chocolate, vanilla and coffee or cafe latte in my pantry now. Coconut Almond Chocolate Smoothie

This is a delicious smoothie that I used to make all the time!
Check out the ingredients needed for this delicious concoction.
Green Monster Smoothie
- 1 cup frozen Peaches
- 1/2 frozen Banana
- 1/2 -1 scoop Vanilla protein powder (optional)
- Large handful of Spinach
- 1 cup of Almond milk (or your choice of milk)
- Several (5-7) ice cubes
Banana Almond Smoothie

Heart Healthy Banana Berry Smoothie

- 1/2 cup frozen Blueberries
- 1-2 handfuls of fresh Spinach
- Frozen Banana
- 1 cup Low Fat Milk (or try Almond Milk)
- Several ice cubes
- (Optional) Scoop of protein powder
- (Optional) 1 tsp Chia seeds
Add all ingredients into blender and mix until smooth!

Me too! The kids have no idea and I feel like I at least got something good for them in their bodies that day. My son is obsessed with smoothies which is great since he’s on a strict toddler diet! haha
I love making smoothies for breakfast. It’s the only way I can get my daughter to eat spinach.

I literally JUST finished my morning breakfast smoothie as I was reading this! Good reminder that there are other options for liquid base than just OJ, which is what I use most mornings. 🙂
