The Long Run: Positive Work Out Mantras

Distance running can seem very daunting, but believe it or not, you can do it too! Ready to train for your first half marathon? Or maybe you’re about to tackle your 10th half or even a full! Join in on The Long Run for different tips and tricks for before, during and after to make it through your long run while feeling your best.

Let’s face it, each and every run or work out isn’t our best. Sometimes we feel sluggish, sometimes we’re under the weather, and a lot of the time it’s just plain mental. I’ve found that positive mantras have often helped me to kick the mental funk and push through. Here are some of my favorites and when I use them!

Running Mantras

“Stay strong and persevere.” – This one truly helps me on my long runs during marathon training. Especially when we I get to the weeks where I am hitting longer distances week after week. I mean I only do a few 20+ milers a year!

“Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” –  Yes I get the annoyingly awesome Dory version in my head. This works best for me when running in the rain! If the puddles are big and you feel like you’re swimming through them, this can help you get over the crumminess of running in the rain!

“Put one foot in front of the other.” Or “Keep moving forward.” – Every long run I think one of these this through the last 3 miles, sometimes more. It helps remind me to keep going and that the finish is in sight as long as I push through.

“You’ll feel great after.” – My go to for those shorter week day runs that I want to skip so bad! I never regret getting a run in and I always regret when I skip!

Workout Mantras

“Don’t stop, get it get it.” – You know this is slightly entertaining and uplifting. I kind of reminds me of a cheer from high school that always got the crowd pumped.

“The body is stronger than the mind.”

“This is not the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

“I don’t sweat I sparkle.”

What mantras do you use to get you through a tough workout?
Do you feel like you need more motivation mentally or physically?

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Sharing is caring!
