Weekend in The Big D

This weekend the hubs and I ventured up to Dallas to see my wonderful SIL and run the Rock ‘n Roll Dallas Half Marathon!

Friday started with the drive up to Dallas. Not exactly a fun one. I-45 all the way. One pit stop at Bucee’s of course for some drinks, banana chips and a potty/stretch break! We made pretty good time getting to Dallas, so we checked into our hotel and met up with Kate {my SIL} for some drinks and Mexican food at Taco Bar in Uptown!

That drink you see in the top left is a Mambo Taxi – margarita and sangria swirled together. Delicious and strong. I may have had one too many. Ooops. By about midnight, we had to call it a night because we’re old. I started at 9pm in my defense 🙂

Saturday morning started with Starbucks and a brisk walk through downtown Dallas from our hotel to the Dallas Convention Center for the race expo! I love Rock ‘n Roll race expos. They always have tons of great vendors and awesome freebies. Luckily, Dallas did not disappoint at all. I wish I would have taken a picture of all my swag but I forgot! We have a bunch of granola bars, healthy chips, dog food samples {for Maggie, duh}, free Jamba Juice, and so much more! Since we got there early, it wasn’t nearly as crowded as many race expos and free samples were all stocked and ready for us to fill our bags!

Only in Texas would you find a lovely scene of cowboys and cattle. I love my home state 🙂

After the expo we met up with Kate for a late lunch at Bread Winners! {Pictures are above in the first collage!} It was delicious! I absolutely over ate because we were starving by the time we were seated. In fact, while we were waiting, Kate and I had to eat a peanut butter cookie. It was a travesty! But seriously, I have the turkey club with sprouts and guacamole and it was amazing. The side of sweet potato fries was a lovely addition 🙂 Then we walked over to Frankie’s Sports Bar where we met up with Brandon and watched March Madness for a few hours.

Somehow Sunday came around too quickly. We woke up to 40 degree temps with gusts of wind up to 30 mph. Not exactly what I would call idea running weather, but it wasn’t hot!

Oh hello there sleepy eyes!

I think this is supposed to be a picture of me saying I’m ready to go. As you can see from this picture, I was not. I did not want to be outside in the frozen, crazy windy air. But I did it. Some how, some way I managed to suck it up. More on the actual race tomorrow. For now I’ll let you know that despite my lack of desire to run pre-race, as soon as I started I was happy and in the zone.

Post-race, Kate picked the hubs and I up and took us back to our hotel. Can you say amazing sister? We were frozen and miserable after running and she was our saving grace. Otherwise it was a 2.5 mile walk back to the hotel. No thank you! After a steaming hot, long shower and some fresh, comfy clothes, it was time to grab some food and get on the road. We met Kate at a Panera Bread – nice and easy on the tummy post-race! Plus, they have cookies.

Cookies make everything better. Then we had to say our goodbyes and make the 4+ hour drive back to H-town. We were pooped and pretty much just sat on the couch the rest of the evening. Even though it was a quick trip, this weekend ended up being even better than expected. We’ll definitely have to plan another mini getaway up to Dallas again this year!

Where do you like to go for weekend getaways?
What’s your favorite post-race or post-awesome workout treat?

Until next time…
With love and God bless,
