Gougler Gourmet: Kitchen Staples

Do you ever feel like you end up with the same food in your kitchen week after week?

I don’t know about you, but I get a bit obsessive with my foods. I get fixated on something and then I decide that I need it over and over again. Then I get sick of it and forget about it for a while.

After a few months, I remember about said food/meal and bring it back into my kitchen. I guess my kitchen is a bit rotational, but for at least a month I have the same foods. In order to change things up a bit {esp. because we’ve been on an eating out kick}, I’ve decided to start meal planning in the Gougler household! I’ve dabbed at it once before, but never was able to stick with it. However, I have a good reason now. With all of my tummy issues and my new awareness of all the different foods that I can’t eat, I have to think even more about what I put into my body. I started eating healthy in 2008 and really enjoy eating healthy foods, but now I’m allergic to some of my healthy alternatives!

Let’s take a look at what this week looks like!

Sunday: White Bean Chili with Chicken
Monday: Stuffed Red Bell Peppers – with chicken (flavored with taco seasoning), black beans, corn, Rotel
Tuesday: Shrimp Etouffee – with quinoa and corn
Wednesday: Date Night
Thursday: Lasagna – with bread and green beans
Friday & Saturday: We’re in Dallas visiting Kristin for her birthday! So dinner is up to her 🙂

Like I said before, my kitchen rotates a bit. Let’s take a look into what I’m currently hoarding in my kitchen…

Current Kitchen Staples:

Peanut and Almond Butter – these have a steady appearance in my household all year round.

Fresh Fruit – currently bananas, watermelon, cantalope and plums

via

Spinach – spinach and fruit salad as well as green smoothies are a staple during the heat of the summer!

Spinach is rich in antioxidents and various vitamins. Use spinach in your salads (over iceburg lettuce)for additional nutrition and to your smoothies as well (you can’t even taste it!)

Popcorn – it’s the perfect low calorie and healthy snack!

Stick with the light butter or simply air popped popcorn. It’s easy to rack up the calories and fat when you add on the butter and sugar! Check out some of the health benefits!

Hummus – I love dipping veggies, pita chips and lentil chips in hummus! It’s delicious and adds some protein into my snack time…as well as some veggies! I also use it as a spread on sandwiches since I don’t like mayo and I am now allergic to mustard!

via – My favorite flavors are original and roasted red pepper!

What are the top 5 staples in your kitchen right now? Do you food faves/craves rotate throughout the year?

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Sharing is caring!
