8 Tips to Simplify Your Mornings

1. Clean the dishes in your sink.

Get those dirty dishes out of the sink and off of your counter! Load up the dishwasher and run it if it’s full and ready to go. This will leave you with an empty, clean sink come morning. I personally feel overwhelmed when my sink and counters are cluttered and dirty.

Getting everything cleaned up before bed means that dishes are easier to clean because food isn’t stuck on them, and you won’t be stressed out about doing it in the morning.

2. Tidy up your main living space.

If your kids are old enough, get them to help out!

  • Get all toys out of the living room and put back where they belong.
  • Place pillows back on the couch and fold up blankets.
  • Clean kitchen counters of food, school work and random things that made their way there over the course of the day.
  • Wipe down surfaces.

It feels so rewarding and less stressful to wake up to a tidy home. Check out my quick mom hacks for a tidy home to see how easy it can be!

3. Lay out clothes for tomorrow.

Take a peek in your kids closets and lay out clothes for them to wear the next day. If they need to choose themselves, even better! Have them decide what they’ll wear and pull it out before bed. This saves the headache of decisions and battles the next morning.

While you’re at it, pull your clothes too! You’ll be glad that they’re ready to go when you’re rushing to get dressed.

4. Get lunches packed.

Game changer. Packing lunches can be stressful in the mornings especially if you’re pressed for time or have a picky eater. Get everything you need for lunches together, placed in their lunch boxes and stored in the refrigerator.

If you prefer to make sandwiches in the morning, pull all the ingredients and store them together on a shelf in your fridge. This way you can grab everything quickly and get it done faster!

5. Make a list of things that need to get done.

I’m a planner and love a good list. Writing out everything I need to get done the next day helps me to visualize our plans and set priorities.

Then I get to check things off the list the following day. I personally find it incredibly satisfying and it makes me realize just how productive I’ve been.

6. Meal plan for tomorrow’s dinner.

I hate getting to the afternoon without knowing what I’m going to make for dinner. I find that planning it out the night before (or even for the whole week) makes things much easier. This way, if a slow cooker meal is the way to go, you’ll be able to get all the ingredients in the next morning. If I don’t plan it out, I always find myself wanting to do something in the slow cooker at 4pm when it’s too late!

You can read about how I loosely meal plan for each week to keep things running smooth around our house! I also have 5 quick, healthy dinners for you to try with your family!

7. Set the coffee machine.

Get your coffee machine set up before you go to bed! Most coffee pots have a timer that you can set to brew at whatever time works for you. If you usually get your coffee out of the home, doing this may help you start a new habit that will save you money!

While you’re getting your coffee prepped, go ahead and decide what you want for breakfast! Some items may be able to be prepped the night before. This will ensure that you’re eating healthy too. Some ideas are overnight oats, paleo banana muffins, sweet potato breakfast casserole, slow cooker oatmeal or slow cooker egg casserole.

8. Get enough sleep!

I cannot stress how important sleep is. It may seem like you can function off of 4-5 hours of sleep, but just think how much more functional you would be with 7-8 hours. Sleep is so important for our bodies to rejuvenate and heal themselves. Give yourself a leg up by just trying to get to bed a little earlier.

Start small by intentionally lying down 15 minutes earlier than usual. Slowly you can increase this time until going to be earlier feels better. Remember to put your phone away and reduce screen time in the evenings to help your body naturally get more tired and ready for bed!

Which of these could you do to make your mornings easier?

I hope that you can apply at least one of these tips to help simplify your morning routine! Mornings can be so chaotic especially when you’re trying to get yourself and you kids ready for the day. I’m all about ways to make my life easier when possible!
