Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Tips and Tricks to planning out your best Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

I’m back and slowly recovering from my wonderful trip to the most magical place on Earth with my little girl and our best friends! We definitely did Disney the right way and got so much packed in during our 4 days there. Since Halloween is quickly approaching, I had to share our experience with Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party! Here are the details of what we did, who we met and what I recommend you do if you decide to attend this awesome Disney event!

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is an awesome extra event put on by Disney World during September and October. You can trick or treat around the park, meet rare characters, eat special treats and ride all the rides with shorter lines! Here are some tips and tricks to planning out your best night at Disney!

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Before I go into too many details, let me tell you a little bit about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party – which I’ll refer to as MNSSHP from now on because that’s a lot of words! MNSSHP is an extra ticketed event offered by Disney. Tickets are limited so the park clears out, special characters arrive and you can trick or treat all over Magic Kingdom. This is the one time a year when adults can also dress up as their favorite characters. Some costumes are so good, they can have you fooled for the real deal!

In case you’re wondering, tickets are $105-$115 per adult depending on the night and $100 per child ages 3-9 years old. Tickets must be purchased by anyone attending, including annual passholders. Tickets are limited each night which helps to keep the number of people at the parks down.

Arriving at the Party

The actual party starts at 7:00pm which is when all regular ticketed guests must leave the park, but the MNSSHP ticket gets guests into the park as early as 4:00pm. I recommend getting there right around 4! We weren’t as prepared as we wanted to be and ended up at the park closer to 4:45pm which was just fine too. Lines to get in were short and easy.

As you enter the park, you get a party wristband, and you’re led around a back way special only to those attending the party. Here there are MNSSHP blow ups, special Halloween statues of your favorite characters all dressed up and Photopass photographers snapping pictures. Walk through here to get your trick-or-treat bag with your first candies!

I recommend bringing your own bag for trick-or-treating! You’ll get more candy that way. Not that I wanted my daughter to have loads of candy. I actually plan to repurpose a lot of the candy. I added 95% of what we got to my own Halloween bucket to hand out to trick-or-treaters!

Have a Plan in Place

Jack and Sally are rare characters that you can find at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! Be sure to plan out your night before attending the party to get in all that you want to see with lighter crowds and special treats!

Before you go to the party, know what you want to do and who you want to meet before you attend the party. Ali and I saw the list of characters that were out at the party before arriving. We decided who were our MUST meet characters were and where they were located. That way we could make sure to get them in! There are lots of rare characters at the Halloween party like Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, Moana, the Seven Dwarves, Lotso from Toy Story 3, the Winnie the Pooh characters in their Halloween costumes and more!

Meeting Jack and Sally and Moana were at the top of our list plus I knew Chloe had to meet Lotso because she’s in love with him – he may be her spirit animal! I recommend getting in line for Jack and Sally when you get to the park if you really want to meet them. They were so fun to chat with and totally worth the wait! Most rare characters don’t come out until 6 or 7pm when the party starts, but they open the line for Jack and Sally at 5pm!

You can meet Lotso at the MNSSHP at Magic Kingdom! He's my daughter's favorite!

Once you know who you want to meet and what you want to ride, plan out how you want to take on the evening. You have until midnight to get everything in which is 8 hours if you get there at 4pm!

Check out the Tasty Treats

There are special Halloween treats throughout the park that you can indulge in! Here’s the food guide for all the party exclusive treats that you can’t get any other time at the parks! Ali and I split the Hades Nachos which are buffalo chicken nachos that can be found at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café in Frontierland. They were a spicy delight!

The Parade and Shows are a MUST See

During the Halloween Party, there is a special Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular show and Mickey’s Boo to You Halloween Parade that you cannot miss! The times for each show listed below:

The Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular and Mickey's Boo To You Halloween Parade are must sees at the MNSSHP!

Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular

Show times are 7:40pm, 8:30pm, 10:45pm and 12:00 midnight.

Mickey’s Boo to You Halloween Parade

Starts at 9:15pm and 11:15pm. It begins in Frontierland and makes its way towards the front of the park.

I recommend setting up along the parade route to watch the Villain Show at 10:45pm. Then stay put right where you are for the 11:15pm parade. This parade is generally less crowded because kids often fall asleep in strollers by then. I was okay with Chloe sleeping through the parade. Renee powered through and watched the whole thing, so you never know what your kids will do.

Don’t Forget to Trick or Treat

Remember you can trick-or-treat throughout the park! You will find 14 stations set up all around the park. These are noted in the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party map and guide and you’ll see them by looking for the lit blow up Trick or Treat signs!

Utilize Photopass photographers and don’t forget to ask for a Magic Shot!

Photopass photographers are great and capture the best memories during your stay at Disney. They are all over the park during MNSSHP and you can get tons of magic shots! After they snap a few photos, be sure to ask about their magic shots. They’ll let you know which ones they have available and make your pictures come to life!

Last but not least…

Dress up and have fun!

This is your chance to dress up at the parks. Halloween costumes aren’t just for little kids these days. Dress up as your favorite Disney character or perhaps your favorite Disney snack! Get creative and see what you can come up with. As you can see, we went as Toy Story characters this year. Rex, Buzz LightYear, Bo Peep and Forky!

We had the best time at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year and I hope that I can go back again in the next couple of years. Maybe I’ll even invite the rest of my family to come along. Who knows? I will say that we had a great girls trip and this was the perfect start to our Disney adventures. Stay tuned over the next few weeks to see our tips on Disney with a toddler and how to do Disney’s Wine and Dine Festive with littles!

Have you ever been to Disney at Halloween? What character would you dress up as?
