Lately: Summer Edition

Summer is officially here! Meanwhile, in Texas, it feels like it’s been summer forever. Hot and humid temps came and blanketed us in May along with all the fun storms and rain showers that we get this time of year. On top of that, school has been out since May 22. That mean this is officially our 6th week of summer.

I must say that summer is wonderful and exhausting at the same time. I thought we would be less busy with school being out, but we’re MUCH more busy than I could have imagined. We’re getting lots of quality time with friends and going some really neat places. Here’s a bit of what’s been going on lately.

Lately I’ve been…

…reading 11/22/63 by Stephen King and Thin Air by Lisa Gray.

We chose 11/22/63 to read in my book club and it took us much longer to read than expected (867 pages), but it’s an amazing book! I highly recommend it. It’s about a time traveler who attempts to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. When I put it like that, it sounds cheesy, but trust me. Stephen King wrote it, so it’s good. It also has a series on Hulu that I have yet to watch but want to!

I found Thin Air through Kindle Unlimited when I was scrolling around trying to find my next book to read. (What you don’t have Kindle Unlimited? Check it out here!) I’m only a short ways into it, but it’s about a private investigator who finds out that not only does she investigate missing persons, she is one. I’ll be sure to report back on what I think once I”m done.

…listening to To Live and Die in LA, The Shrink Next Door, Root of Evil and The Teacher’s Pet. All of these were awesome podcasts and I highly recommend them. Root of Evil is definitely dark, so you have been warned. I’ve finished all of these podcasts and I’m currently listening to The Thrive Bloggerst Podcast to get tips on my blog, social media strategy and more!

…watching obviously The Bachelorette! I love Jed and Peter, just saying. JP and I are also currently watching The Americans. Yes, I know, we’re behind the times. We’re only on the first season but loving it!

…looking forward to our upcoming travel adventures! Today we’re actually headed to New Braunfels for a fun day at Schlitterbahn on Saturday. Next month, Brody and I are flying to Ft. Meyers, FL to visit my bestie Julie! It will be my first solo flight with Brody. Chloe is hanging back at home for some quality daddy time.

In August, we’re packing up the whole family and heading overseas again! This time to visit Scotland! It’s Brody’s very first international adventure and our second flight as a family of four. I’m honestly feeling really confident about the whole trip! People thing that we’re crazy, but we love to travel. If you go into it with an open mind and excited heart, then your kids feed off of that energy. Now I need to start planning everything we’re going to do!

…thinking about Chloe’s 4th birthday and Brody’s 1st birthday! My summer babies have birthdays coming up too quickly. Just like every year, I’m excited for all the new adventures and exciting things that come with the next phase, but I’m already missing the ones we’ve left behind. The picture above is from Brody’s 6th month photo shoot in early March. It’s crazy to think about how much they’ve changed in just 4 months!

…working out about 5-6 days a week. I’m trying to run 3 days a week with 1 easy run, 1 speed run and a weekend long run. Some weeks I only get 2 runs in since it’s summer. Luckily I have my new treadmill to help with that! The other days I’m doing home workouts in between being bossed around by my 3 year old, nursing and chasing my baby and keeping the house in order.

Here are a couple of my workouts that I’ve done recently!

…ready for Vacation Bible School! In case y’all didn’t know, this is my third year on the VBS core team. I’m in the Bible Stories room and have partnered with my friend Chelsea in the past, but this year I’m rocking it solo since she is the director now! I’m excited to get my room set up and everything ready to go in a couple of weeks.

…happy that we have so much to do this summer! Lately we’ve been meeting up with lots of friends. Sometimes we’re just at someone’s house (which I personally LOVE) and sometimes we’re out exploring all the things the Houston area has to offer. Just yesterday we went to Candytopia and I can’t wait to share more with y’all soon!

Now drop a comment and tell me something you’ve been doing lately!

Also, please leave me some new podcast and book recommendations pretty please!

Sharing is caring!
