Minnie & Daisy Super Splash-tastic 2nd Birthday Party!

Hey hey hey! I made it through Chloe’s 2nd birthday and party! Oddly enough I didn’t shed a tear on her birthday. It’s probably because I was so busy. I spent all day Friday cleaning and prepping. Then Saturday cleaning again and getting all set up! Her birthday was Saturday, so I had to have her party on the actual day. But oh my goodness, I forgot how overwhelming throwing a birthday party can be. {If you want a flashback, here is Chloe’s 1st birthday party post!}

Let’s take a look at the big day! Prepare for less words and lots of pictures!

The Decorations
Since Chloe is absolutely obsessed with Minnie and Daisy, we had to do a Minnie and Daisy themed birthday party! I was able to stock up on tons of pink and purple decorations at my favorite giant party store in downtown Houston, Arne’s!

Just like last year, I printed out over 100 pictures of Chloe over the last year and scattered them throughout the house. I finally bought an album for year one and two! I hope to keep this up as a fun way to showcase our girl on her day.

Cupcakes as always are from Crave Cupcakes in Houston. Crave is 100% my go to cupcakery! I buy minis from them for every special occasion: birthdays, baby showers, gender reveal, you name it! If you live in Houston, you have to give them a try. You won’t regret it.

Since it’s July in Houston, I knew that we would have to have water if we wanted to be outside. It turned out that Saturday was the hottest day of the year so far. Luckily, we rented this super awesome waterslide bounce house! Best decision ever.

The Party

We had so many friends and family members show up to celebrate Chloe! She doesn’t even know how loved she is.

When we sang “Happy Birthday” Chloe wasn’t too sure about it. She kept saying Momma at every pause in the song. It was kind of adorable and my sister managed to get it on video! Apparently Chloe doesn’t like being the center of attention like her momma…yet!

Later in the afternoon, the grown ups hit the waterslide! We had so much fun. Possibly more fun than the little kiddos did! We found different ways to go down the slide and shoot ourselves off at take off. Let’s just say that this was the best purchase for the party and I fully intend to get one of these guys again!

The Presents

Getting a two year old to open presents is quite a feat. She gets distracted super easily and is ready to play with most of the toys as soon as she opens them!

She loves to yank the tissue paper out of the bags. It’s funny because it’s almost an angry rip out of the bag.

This picture below cracks me up even though it’s blurry. For starters, JP and my faces are hilarious. My eyeballs in particular. Second, even though Chloe is out of focus, she’s so cute! She brought her new Minnie Mouse light up shoes to Auntie Emmy and is asking her to put them on her. Of course Auntie Emmy stopped what she was doing to help the princess.

Girlfriend was totally and completely spoiled by our friends and family. The love everyone showers on our girl is beyond appreciated. When Chloe was born, I knew that she would be loved, but I never expected to have so many people go above and beyond in our lives. It brings tears to my eyes to see the love poured out for our baby girl. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. Thank you to everyone who had other obligations, but still took the time to send love and messages. Thank you to everyone who plays a positive roll in my daughter’s life. You all mean so much to us! So here is to another year in the life of Chloe Grace. It’s hard to believe my baby is two!

Chloe Grace: Two Years Old

And just like that my bitty baby is two years old.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve gone back through my birth story and all of her monthly updates over the past couple of days. I’ve laughed, gotten teary eyed, had baby fever and felt pure joy. How could the last two years of my life been filled with more joy and laughter? They couldn’t. It’s been amazing and I wouldn’t have it any other way. But this post is not about me and my feelings. It’s about my big girl and all of her accomplishments!

Year two of Chloe’s life has been a blast! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed being a mommy to a bitty baby, but watching her grow, learn and become her own person the last year has been amazing.

Chloe has so much personality! She is sassy and oh so strong willed. She is constantly testing her boundaries and pushing my buttons. It can be frustrating, but I’m also very thankful for it. I know that it will continue to be her most frustrating and admirable quality just as my mom has said the same for me. The funny thing is that she is definitely a mix between JP and me. Not only is she strong willed, but she can also be incredibly easy going. Her daddy is very laid back and go with the flow, and she can be as well! Chloe travels and adjusts to new surroundings shockingly well for a toddler. I think it helps that we started taking her so many places at a young age. Watching her grow into the person she is becoming is amazing. I love getting to know my favorite tiny human as she becomes her own person!

Chloe is very vocal. She isn’t afraid to tell you no that’s for sure! She jibber jabbers all the time, but is also speaking some small sentences. Some of her current favorites are “I do it.” “Hold you momma.” “I jump more.” “Oh no, I boo boo!” along with several others along those lines. She is currently my little parrot! She copies what we’re saying these days, so we’ve started trying to watch what we say around her. I’m pretty sure she is learning a new word every day at this point. They aren’t always said perfectly and she may not know exactly what she’s saying, but she’s doing it!

Even though Chloe is a happy go lucky, traveling the world kind of little girl, she has another side as well. She’s actually pretty serious and kind of a home body! When she sets her mind to something, she has a very serious sort of determination. Also when we’re just relaxing at home and she’s in her own little world, she likes to be left there until she invites you in. We’ve also entered a stage where she just wants to be at home. She loves playing in her game room, her backyard and her front yard. Going on walks is also acceptable according to Chloe. Some days I’ll ask her if she wants to go to xyz or stay home and she’ll say home most of the time! I try to keep her home for the majority of the day at least 2-3 week days to give her the down time she needs at home!

Our little girl is so full of joy. She loves to..

  • swim! All day every day if she had the chance.
  • pretend to cough until someone asks if she okay.
  • jump on the couch.
  • walk down the stairs yelling “I do it!” so no one helps her.
  • go in and out of her princess tent in the game room.
  • splash in her water table.
  • go on walks in her stroller, on her bike or in her new wagon.
  • drink water out of the faucet in the bathtub when we turn it down to a trickle.
  • just be at home some days.
  • watch Mickey & the Roadster Racers while snuggling on the couch before bed.
  • eat popsicles while swinging on the porch.
  • dress up in her Anna and Elsa dresses whenever momma will let her!

There you have it my newborn turned into a baby and then a toddler before me eyes. I love watching her grow and learn, and I can’t wait to see where the next year together leads us. Big changes are coming her way shortly with 3 weeks overseas and then she starts Mother’s Day Out a couple of days after we return!

Happy happy birthday baby girl! Momma and Daddy love you more than you know!

Did you miss an update?

What’s in Chloe’s Bag?

Last week {okay, the week before last because I went missing last week} I posted about my summer purse/diaper/gym bag. I always find it fascinating the different things that women carry in their bags. Everyone seems to be different. It makes sense. We all have different needs and values, so our purses have all sorts of different things in them. Since I’ve transitioned away from the diaper bag, I’ve been using my Longchamp tote for all of mine and Chloe’s necessities. You can check out mine here if you missed it, but today we’re going to talk about what all Chloe has in our bag! This week is all about Chloe after all! {Only 2 more days until my baby is 2!}

For starters, you can see that the majority of what I have in my bag is for this little girl! Tiny humans need a lot of stuff! Luckily toddlers need a little less than babies, so for now, I can carry my normal bag. Let’s dive in.

Diapers & wipes because obviously girlfriend is not potty trained yet. We’re not quite ready to jump on that train until after all of our traveling is done the next couple of months. An extra change of clothes because you never really know what’s going to happen. Chloe loves the water so much that she’s been known to get soaked given the opportunity. Also blow outs. They don’t happen as often, but you don’t want to be left in poopy clothes if it does! Lately I’ve also had to carry sunglasses because Chloe wants to be like mommy! She got these fabulous white rhinestone ones from her great Auntie Liz and Uncle Joe. She’s kind of obsessed.

Snacks. All of the snacks. I need a few snacks in my part of the bag for my hangries, but Chloe needs ALL the snacks. Multiple options must be available in case of emergency. She may love something on day and hate it the next. How dare I offer her bunny grams? Those are so not fetch today. I usually keep an apple sauce, bunny grams, goldfish, raisins, a kids Cliff bar and in case of emergency gummies aka the g word. She’s so obsessed with gummies, but I try not to give them to her very often. If I need to whip them out to make a situation better though, you better believe I’m not above bribery! If I know we’ll be out and about for a while, I may also add some grapes, strawberries or other fruit and a string cheese! I usually keep her snacks in a quart size baggie to contain them in my purse. Otherwise, I would have snacks everywhere!

In her little “makeup bag” I keep a variety of things that we may not use every day, but I don’t want to be caught without. Tylenol and syringe for teething, sunscreen for sunshine, diaper cream for rashes, bug spray for bugs, a comb for crazy hair and Boogie wipes for runny noses. {I should really use the bug spray in there, but I always forget!} As you can see, we have a necklace and a pony, in case of emergency of course. Those were Chloe additions. I also started carrying crayons and a small book for Chloe to color. She’s started enjoying coloring lately, and it’s a great time passer if we’re out and about. Plus, it doesn’t take up much space.

As you can see, girlfriend doesn’t exactly pack lightly. I never want to get caught wishing I had something and be left empty handed. Sometimes I put Chloe’s stuff into her giraffe backpack in the picture above! Then I’ll just throw my keys and wallet in there. It just depends on the day and the situation. Also, pictured above, it looks like so much! Luckily, it condenses quite nicely. A lot of the stuff goes into Chloe’s makeup bag and her snacks are all bagged together too. The clothes roll up nicely and fall snuggly into a corner of the bag. What I’m saying is that it all fits comfortably, even with my things, in my Longchamp Le Pilage tote!

There you have it folks! All the things that Chloe and I both deem necessary to travel along places with us. It’s much less than when she was a bitty baby that’s for sure.

I’m always fascinated with what’s in other people’s bags. So now the important question…what are the top three things you can’t live without in your bag? Is it all for you or for your kiddos?
Top three for me are snacks, diapers and chapstick! Snacks for both, diapers for Chloe and chapstick for me!

Chloe Lately!

It’s Chloe’s birth week, so this week is ALL about Chloe! I thought it would be fun to do a Chloe lately post so y’all can see what’s she up to, what makes her happy and what adventures life has in store for her!

Lately Chloe has been…

…reading How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, Happy Birthday Baby {Dr. Seuss}, All Better, Everyone Poops, I’m a Dirty Dinosaur and Brown Bear, Brown Bear {and all the other similar books in this series!} This little girl loves books just like her momma!

…listening to Frozen and Moana soundtracks plus some Barney song when we’re in the car!

…watching Zootopia, Finding Dory, Frozen, Moana, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Barney. We pretty much rotate between these movies. I’ve tried adding others, but she’s not having it right now!

…thinking about how to push back bedtime a little longer each night! She gets to watch one “yacer” or racer which is Mickey and the Roadster Racers after she takes a bath. Each night she yells “One more! One more!” Not happening kiddo.

…looking forward to her trip to Norway of course! Just kidding, she has no clue what I’m talking about when I mention it. She is however, looking forward to staying home with mommy all day today after a crazy, busy last week and a half. It’s the little things y’all.

…working on her forward roll. She’s almost got it, if only she would just lean over once she assumes the roll position!

…wishing she could be a mermaid. Seriously this child is obsessed with the water and loves swimming! I think she would just live in my parents’ pool if we would let her.

…ready for her birthday party this Saturday!

…happy that she has a mommy and daddy who love her so very much! At least I’m pretty sure that she’s happy about that. And if she isn’t, she should be 🙂

There you have it, a little piece of Chloe lately. I asked her what her answers to these prompts and most of the time she just said, “Hi Momma!” If not that, she would count, say some colors, talk about her puppies or name the characters from Mickey Mouse. That’s my girl! I really do feel like these would be her answers though!

It’s hard to believe my girl is growing up so fast! I’m loving every stage of life with her. I think it just keeps getting better and better! Well I’m off to play tea party now with her new set from her great Uncle Bruce and Auntie Bonnie. It’s all about Chloe after all…

A Pre-Birthday Celebration!

Oh my goodness y’all, it’s already Monday. I feel like my last week and weekend were a complete whirlwind. Things have been pretty crazy around here. In case you didn’t see the one and only short post I put up last week, I was at VBS! I was the Bible Discovery Room co-leader with my friend Chelsea. It was a blast, but totally and completely exhausting. {I forgot what it was like to work full time and come home to my baby girl. You working mommas seriously are rockstars!}

Aside from being busy with VBS and every day life, we’ve been busy preparing for our baby girl’s 2nd birthday! I can’t believe that She’s going to be 2 in just five days. That’s it. On Saturday, I’ll no longer have a one year old, I’ll have a full fledged TWO year old! It’s crazy.

This Saturday we had a pre-birthday celebration with her grandparents, great grandmother, great auntie/uncles and cousins on JP’s side! JP’s parents and aunt and uncle are going on an Alaskan cruise and they actually leave today! Since they won’t be here for her birthday this coming weekend, we thought it would be fun to have a family party. This way everyone would get much more time with the birthday princess.

She was totally spoiled rotten! I think the toy store just came straight to our house. Despite the attitude on her face in the picture below, I promise she had a great time opening her presents. She actually made us open up the toys as she opened the presents!

She got an easel with all the art supplies she could possible want, a Melissa and Doug cake cutting set and steep & sip tea set, adorable clothes, books and sunglasses, magnets, animals and more! She’s kind of obsessed with all of them. It’s really fun to watch her play with her new toys. I haven’t really gotten her anything new the past couple of months besides her goodies from Disneyland since her birthday is coming up. I forgot how fascinating new toys are and how fixated she gets with them!

I made her a fun little cake and I’m already ready to make it again. It was a simple funfetti cake from a box split into two nine inch round pans. Then I put a layer of whipped cream and sliced strawberries in the middle and iced the top layer with chocolate frosting. Naturally I topped it with sprinkles! It turned out to be delicious!

Remember that Melissa and Doug steep and sip tea set I mentioned she received? Take a look at just how cute it is…

Y’all it had little tea bags that you can put into the tea cups and even a little sheet that tells you how to make tea! I mean my girl has been to London after all. Now she’ll be ready when she goes back some day!

Most of the other pictures were taken on everyone else’s phones and cameras. I was so busy getting lunch situated and helping her open presents that taking pictures got pushed to the wayside. But I know there are some cute ones with our family members in them! It was a wonderful celebration and I’m so thankful we have so many people in our lives that love our girl so much!

Since it’s Chloe’s birth week, it’ll be all about Chloe here! Stay tuned…

On a totally unrelated note before I go, anyone watch Game of Thrones last night? I won’t give away any spoilers, but oh my goodness. My two thoughts. (1) Littlefinger may be one of the rapiest characters. He totally creeps me out. (2) The ending scenes totally had me all WTF? Am I right?

Happy Monday y’all!

MIA

Hey y’all! I’ve been a little MIA this week and it’s going to stay that way for a few more days! I’ve had a crazy busy week. I’m actually teaching Vacation Bible School this week! My friend Chelsea and I are the leaders in the Bible Discovery room which means lots of fun skits and activities to follow along the Bible stories. It is exhausting! I’m up early and wrangling kids all morning. It’s so much fun and totally worth it, but man am I tired. Then I get home and I have a baby girl who was in the nursery all morning that just wants to play and talk with her momma. Don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing, but it wears a momma out. On top of all that, I still have my day to day to get through. Oh and did I mention Chloe’s birthday party is next weekend, so I’m finishing up that as well!

Like I said, a crazy busy week. I wouldn’t have it any other way! If you’re a praying person, say a prayer for me that I make it through the last couple of days and that I can help spread the word of God to these kiddos! I’ll be back next week and it’s going to be all about Chloe!!!

What’s in my Summer Gym/Diaper bag?

Eeep! It’s Friday and that means I’m going to the beach today! Just a little weekend getaway with my best two girls. No boys. No babies. Just us. It’s been years, like before Chloe was born, that we’ve been on a trip with all three of us! That may not seem like a big deal to some, but we’ve traveled quite a bit together! Orlando {a couple of times}, Cape Cod, Boston, New Braunfels, and more! This afternoon we’re headed to Galveston for a couple of days to enjoy good food, good company and Schlitterbahn Galveston!
Now let’s talk about something totally different. My bag. As in the bag that I use to carry all of my stuff and Chloe’s stuff on a daily basis. You notice how I call it my bag? Not my purse. Not a diaper bag. Not a gym bag. Just a bag? That’s kind of what it has become. It’s kind of an all in one type contraption these days. I switched from my traditional diaper bag to my Longchamp tote. It’s big enough to fit all our crap, easy to clean and looks cute too! About that room in the bag, it’s safe to say that half or possibly over half of the stuff in there is Chloe’s. The other part is mine. Today let’s take a look at what’s mine in there!

Remember how I said it’s a little bit of everything? I wasn’t kidding. It’s really a solid combo of purse, gym and diaper bag. I like to keep an extra shirt and headband in my bag during the summer for a couple of reasons. It’s hot and sweaty in Houston this time of year. Sometimes you just need a quick change or to pull your hair back. Plus I’ve been working out with a trainer this summer, and I run errands on my way home from my workout when I can! Nobody wants me running into their store all stinky and nasty post workout! {I can’t help it, I’m a sweater y’all.} This is also why I have deodorant and dry shampoo in my bag! I love Dove. I use the clinical strength at home, but just have a regular stick in my purse for emergencies. I’ve also been using Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo for a couple of years. Recently Influenster sent me the Clean Freak Tapioca dry shampoo and it’s perfect for my bag! I love this scent because it’s sweet and fresh smelling at the same time. I like to think it helps cover the stink.

Now let’s talk about the two most important things in my bag: snacks. My snacks vary, but I have to have at least two types of snacks in there in case of emergency. I get the hangries so bad. I can almost guarantee there will be a Questbar in there because I love them so much. They have 20g of protein, so I feel like I’m getting more nutritional value out of my snack. Of course sometimes you just need bunny grahams or something else easy. Since I have a toddler, grab and go snacks are easy to come by in my house.

Last few items are Advil because you never know when you’re going to need it. I am a toddler mom after all! EOS lip balm because it goes everywhere with me. I have it in several different scents and love each one of them. They are in different rooms of my house and different bags. You never know when you’re going to need chapstick! And of course, I need a small bag to keep all of my things in. I have to keep my bag organized with both mine and Chloe’s necessities in there!

Not pictured or discussed above: all of Chloe’s things. Interested in what a toddler needs/thinks she needs in mom’s bag? Coming soon…

What necessities do you keep in your summer bag?

Happy Friday y’all! I hope your weekend is as awesome as mine is going to be!

Birthday Brewery Shenanigans

Happy Birthday Emma Roo!
Today is my baby sister’s 27th birthday, so I had to take a second to tell her happy birthday and I love her! It’s also the perfect time to recap our fun celebration at Karbach Brewing Co. last Sunday. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a sneak peek!

Like I said, on Sunday we went to Karbach Brewing Co in Houston! JP and I went a few months ago to celebrate our friend Lauren’s birthday and had a blast, so we told my family about it. We’ve been trying to get everyone together to go out there, and this weekend we were finally able to. And to celebrate Emily to boot!

We got out there a little after 1:00pm and it was HOT! Karbach has an awesome outdoor Beer Garden around on the backside of the restaurant. July in Houston is no joke. It was very sweaty, but the company and atmosphere made it worth it.

Around 3:00pm, we went on a tour of the brewery. It was a little bit of an escape from the heat. You can see that Chloe is not impressed with their A/C in the picture above. We had to wear these glasses through the tour which Chloe kept on through most of it. I was pretty impressed. She didn’t however, want to walk on her own. She needed to “Hold you momma! Hold you momma!” It definitely made our journey a bit warmer, but once we got to the barrel room it was so cold and refreshing!

Of course as soon as we got there, Chloe was over the tour, so my mom took her back to our table at the Beer Garden for food. Because my daughter takes after her momma and is always “hummrie!” We snapped a few pictures in the barrel room while the guide explained some of their specialty beers and how they’re made in old wine and whiskey barrels. It’s pretty neat actually! I’m personally not much of a beer drinker. And by not much of a beer drinker, I mean I don’t drink beer unless I’m at breweries pretty much. Luckily Karbach has some pretty interesting flavors that aren’t as bitter or hoppy. I’m a big fan on their lemon ginger beer!

After the tour, we went back to our table for some birthday shenanigans! Matt {Emily’s husband} ordered a cake from Nothing Bunt Cake and I picked it up to bring to the brewery as a surprise! Since we ended up having a few more people come than expected, I also whipped up some cupcakes for the whole crew. There’s nothing worse than a cake shortage. I’d rather have too much and that we did!

The rest of the afternoon we spent outside listening to music, drinking beer and playing games! They have corn hold, giant jenga and the hook and ring game outside for everyone to play. We set up at a giant jenga table and played several rounds. I’m proud to say that I never was the reason the tower fell! {JP was not so lucky 🙂}

There was also this little ride on horse {like the ones outside of the grocery store} that was beside our table. Chloe was in love with the horsie! We donated quite a few quarters to this horse before realizing we could open the box and reuse quarters. We may have found a way around the system, but like I said, a couple dollars worth of quarters were put in before we figured it out!

Around 5:30pm, all of our beer tokens were gone and we were hungry, so we headed back to my parents for some fajitas and air conditioning! It was the perfect chill, low key celebration for my baby sister. It suited her perfectly. Now today is her day!

I love you Emma Roo! Even though I wasn’t too sure about you 27 years ago, I wanted to let you know that now I think you’re pretty cool. I’m glad that mom and dad decided to keep you! But all joking aside, I love you so much and I’m lucky to have my best friend and sister in one person.

I love that I can confide in you no matter what. I love that you know the right things to say when I need you. I love that we can be ridiculous and silly together. I love that we enjoy being around each other. I love that we see each other weekly and still FaceTime each other. I love that you didn’t hesitate to give me a back massage even though I was naked and pregnant in the tub when I was having braxton hicks. I love that you don’t hate me for holding your butt in public places to embarrass you when you were in middle school. I love that you would do anything for me. I love that you are a strong, independent woman. I love that you have a heart for the Lord. I love that you are you.

Happy birthday!

Things I’m Loving Friday: 4th Edition

It’s Friday yet again!!! A couple of month ago I started taking an adult tumbling/gymnastics class on Friday afternoons, so now I have even more reason to be excited for Fridays! If I’m not going out of town, I get to tumble! I’m thinking that may need a whole blog post in itself.
JP and I are looking forward to this weekend because we’re going to be at home! Yippie! We still have plans, but nice low key plans in the Houston area. After several weekends away, this is very needed.

one. My Star Spangled, Shoe Loving Sweetheart

Y’all this girl is obsessed with shoes. {She gets it from her Auntie Kate!} But really, she goes through several different pairs a day. There are a select few pairs that she’s in love with and of course one of them is 1.5 sizes too big, but she insists on wearing them. She loves to try and put them on by herself and talks about all the colors. She’s constantly in our closet sticking her feet into our shoes. I’m impressed that she’s actually starting to get pretty good at walking around in them! This is how we started our 4th of July morning 🙂

two. Say Cheese

This girl is serious when it comes to the phrase “say cheese”! She cheeses so hard that most of our pictures look like this now. Any tips on how to get her to actually smile? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love these adorable pictures, but every so often, I need a sweet smile.

three. Family 4th

I love the 4th of July. Celebrating the 4th is something we always do. The past several years, we’ve spent the 4th at my parents’ house with the family and this year was no exception! I mean, clearly this backyard is the perfect place to celebrate America. We swam for seven hours, made burgers, hot dogs and sausage, played on a slip ‘n slide, made margaritas and ate pie!

four. Sleepy Head

Chloe partied so hard on the 4th that she crashed after we ate pie. She crashed hard while watching Barney on her mini DVD player that my mom got her. I leaned the chair back after I took this picture and all she did was shift. Not a peep or a fuss. She was just done and I can’t say I blame her! Seven hours in the sun with no nap will do that to a girl. She was so tired that once we got her home and into her jammies, she slept right through all of the fireworks around us.

four. Fireworks

I love fireworks. They’re so pretty and fun to watch. We had front row seats to watch the show that the neighborhood across the street put on display. After we got Chloe to bed, we grabbed our chairs and walked a few houses down to sit and relax with a few of our neighbors. It was an awesome show with perfect seats. We didn’t even have to deal with crowds or craziness!

I’m a huge 4th of July fan and I had a blast this year even though we had to celebrate on a Tuesday!

What is your favorite part of the 4th of July?
Do you have any traditions?
