18 Week Bumpdate

It’s Friday and I’m back! Disney was absolutely amazing and I wish that I was still there. But I’d like to bring my husband, puppies and bed with me this time around. Maybe move into Cinderella’s castle? It’s plenty big. We just need a two bedroom suite or something like that! Anyway, the last two weeks have been quite a whirlwind with my injury happening right before I left for my much anticipated Disney vacation. I’ll go more into my poor ankle next week because right now I owe y’all a bumpdate!
First a rewind to last week’s bump pics:

How Far Along? 18 weeks

Size of Baby: Sweet potato! He/she is about 5 1/2 inches long and around 5-6 oz in weight

Weight Gain: Up about 5 1/5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight

Maternity Clothes: Still no pregnancy specific clothes. I need to unbutton my jeans to stay comfortable, so I’m sure I’ll be busting out the belly band next time I wear them.

Stretch marks: Not yet and hopefully never!

Symptoms: Headaches, increased appetite,

Cravings: Peanut butter crackers, grapes, oranges, grilled cheese, and other random things depending on the day.

Gender: Tomorrow is the big day of our gender reveal!

Mood: Happy, but pooped! Our amazing Disney trip really took it out of me.

Nursery: No progress yet, but I think March will be the start of figuring out how to turn the guest room into a guest room and nursery all together!

Movement: Feeling little bitty movements every few days or so!

Sleep: Still waking up once or twice at night for potty breaks. Some nights I fall right back to sleep and others it can take an hour or longer. Luckily going, going, going like crazy at Disney has been helping me sleep really well this week.

Workouts: Thanks to my bum ankle, workouts are a bit harder :-/
Sunday: Walk 3 miles + walking bits of Epcot
Monday: Walking a little at Universal Studios (I was sick and in a wheelchair)
Tuesday: Walking Hollywood Studios (also in a wheelchair)
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Rest
Much needed rest post injury and vacation. Hoping to get started again next week!

What I Miss: Being able to run and that’s not even because of pregnancy!

Belly Button in or out? In…but it’s starting to stretch

Wedding rings on or off? On

Anything making you queasy or sick: Mornings. I feel a bit nauseous every morning, but it goes away after an hour or two. No food aversions though.

Best Moment This Week: Spending time with my girls at Disney World!

Labor Signs: No

Looking Forward To: Finding out if Baby G is a boy or girl TOMORROW!

I’m starting to show a little bit more. I can tell that my body is changing and those who know me well and see me often notice a different, but more often than not people say, “You don’t even look pregnant at all!” I guess I’ll take it as a compliment. They say that strong abs will keep you from showing early on, so yay abs! The bump is definitely bigger in the evening though. Thanks gas and food!

Now I’m ready for this weekend! Tomorrow is going to be so amazing and I can’t wait to find out who Baby G will be!

Try this Thursday: Smoothie Goodness

Well I’m officially in Orlando hanging out with my best girls and looking forward to Disney starting tomorrow! I was totally on my game last week and was able to get some posts up for y’all to enjoy while I’m away!!!

Y’all I have been craving smoothies like no other. I have no idea, but the cold deliciousness is really satisfying. It’s also a great way for me to get fruits, veggies and protein without having to eat a huge meal. My stomach is already not into eating much at once. It’s pretty convenient that I’m craving smoothies because they’re so good for you and there are tons of heart healthy options. Did y’all know it’s Hearth Health Month? Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of Americans. And right now, I don’t only have my own heart to look out for, but Baby G’s too!

Every day we have countless choices of what foods to put in our bodies. Did you know that some choices could help to lower cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart related disease? Omega 3 fatty acids, fiber and phytoestrogens are just a few nutrients found in these heart super foods. When looking for heart healthy options, whole foods are the way to go. The less processed, the better! Salmon, almonds, oatmeal, blueberries, spinach, sweet potatoes and even dark chocolate are a few with the best hearty healthy nutrients.

Here’s what I think is needed to create the most delicious smoothie:

Choose your wet ingredient and use 1/2 cup to 1 cup:

  • Water
  • Almond/Coconut milk
  • Regular milk
  • Juice (apple, orange, specialty juices, etc.)
Choose your frozen fruits 1/4-1 cup depending on how many you choose:
  • Banana
  • Orange
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Mango
  • Peaches
  • other
Choose your veggie (Optional):
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Butternut squash

Choose additional Optional ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Chia seeds
  • 1 tsp Flax seeds
  • 1 scoop Protein powder or smoothie blend mix
  • Flavorings
  • other
Add all ingredients into your blender with several ice cubes. Ice cubes are optional, but I like them to give my smoothies more volume. If you like a creamier smoothie, omit the ice cubes. Mix all ingredients until blended extremely well. Pour into your favorite cup/mason jar/mug and enjoy!

In short, here is the equation to a perfect smoothie:
Liquid + frozen fruit + veggie + other ingredients (optional) + ice cubes + blender = Deliciousness

Here are some easy recipes to try at home:

Orange Smoothie

3/4 cup of Carrot Orange juice
1 cup frozen Peaches
1/2 frozen Banana
1 tsp Chia seeds
Several (5-7) ice cubes

I love this Next Step protein/meal replacement from The Vitamin Shoppe. It can be used in smoothies or just blended with ice and water like I did above!

Green Monster Smoothie
1 cup frozen Peaches
1/2 frozen Banana
1/2 -1 scoop Vanilla protein powder (optional)
Large handful of Spinach
1/2 cup of Almond milk (or your choice of milk)
Several (5-7) ice cubes

Banana Almond Smoothie recipe

Heart Healthy Banana Berry Smoothie
  • 1/2 cup frozen Blueberries
  • 1-2 handfuls of fresh Spinach
  • 1 frozen Banana
  • 1/2-3/4 cup Low Fat Milk (or try Almond Milk)
  • Several ice cubes
  • (Optional) Scoop of protein powder
  • (Optional) 1 tsp Chia seeds
Add all ingredients into blender and mix until smooth!

What are your favorite flavors of smoothies?
Any awesome fruits, veggies or other ingredients that I need to try?

A Blast into my runDisney Past!

Oh hello, happy Disney week! That’s right, this Wednesday I’ll be hopping on a plane with Ashley and Alison to head to Orlando! Julie will be picking us up at the airport and we will be reunited and happy and ready for the most amazing girls weekend ever!

I thought today would be fun to take a blast to the past. This is my 5th year to run the Disney Princess half. It’s my first time to run any of the other races.

I had just moved to Pittsburgh and I really wanted to run this Disney race. None of my friends could do it that year, so I decided to ask my mom if she wanted to go with me. Let’s just say that I have the most supportive momma in the whole world. We met up in Orlando and my mom brought her sister, Aunt Dianne, and her best friends! I had a nice little fan club. They took me to the expo, lounged around the pool, woke up early to see me cross the finish line and spent lots of fun time at Downtown Disney with me! We had a wonderful trip and didn’t even go to the actual parks. It was my first runDisney experience and I was hooked. I did decide that the following year, I would be going to at least one park! Full recap here.

# of days at Disney: 3 – Friday night to Monday evening
People who came with me: Mom, Robin, Aunt Dianne, Ginny, Debbie and Trish!
Hotel: Port Orleans Riverside
Parks: None
Costume: Pretty Pink Princess
Race finish time: 2:02:14

After running my first runDisney race, I knew that I needed to plan ahead of time to make sure we were able to do everything we wanted! I made everyone tutus before the race based on the colors everyone wanted. We had a plan. We knew what we were going to do. And we were ready to have fun! We decided to wait to do the parks after our race to save our legs for running. We visited Magic Kingdom after showering and eating post half marathon, and it was quite the long day! A fun day, but a long day! Then we went to Universal Studios to see Harry Potter World for the first time on Monday before heading home. It was an awesome trip and once again, we learned even more tips and tricks to make sure the next year was even more awesome. Full race recap here.

# of days at Disney: 3 – Friday night to Monday evening
People who came with me: Emily, Julie and Andrea
Hotel: Caribbean Beach
Parks: Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios
Costume: Belle…kind of
Race finish time: Apparently I didn’t put it in my blog! I ran with Julie and I think we finished around 2:40!

We kept mostly the same girls this year except my sister couldn’t go because she was in Physical Therapy school. Luckily for us, Alison was dying to go, so she was the perfect addition to our group. I was in year 3 of the Disney Princess half and I knew I wanted to do even more. The girls agreed and we went to Universal, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Magic Kingdom! Needless to say we were pretty pooped, but it was completely worth it. One thing we did learn from the previous year is to take a breather after race day to relax and hang out at the pool! Charlie joined us this year and he was just an angel baby. It was convenient to have the stroller to hold our bags and we took full advantage of the rider baby swap! Full race recap here.

# of days at Disney: 4 – Thursday night to Monday evening
People who came with me: Julie, Andrea and Alison
Hotel: Coronado Springs
Parks: Universal Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and Magic Kingdom
Costume: Queen of Hearts
Race finish time: 2:05:46

Last year’s trip was the best year yet. Seriously, I didn’t think it could get better, but this year we may be able to. After some persuading, we were able to get Ashley to come with us! Let’s just say she didn’t regret it because she’s coming again this year! Last year, Julie was actually living in Orlando and employed by Disney. She now knows all the tricks to make your Disney trip as amazing as possible. It was our first year to use the Magic Bands and planning Fast Passes which helped so much! We got on all the best rides and saw all the cute shows. There were a few things that we happened upon…visiting with the princesses…that we’re definitely doing again this year! We also had a character lunch at Magic Kingdom and got to meet all the Winnie-the-Pooh characters! We took advantage of after park hours and were able to fit MK and Hollywood Studios both in one day which was perfect since we were able to see the HS Fantasmic light show!  Full race recap here.

# of days at Disney: 4 – Friday night to Tuesday evening
People who came with me: Julie, Alison and Ashley
Hotel: Caribbean Beach
Parks: Universal Studios, Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot
Costume: Cinderella
Race finish time: 2:01:01

I’m so incredibly ready for this year’s trip. It’s going to be the most amazing Disney trip possible. I’m sad that I won’t be able to ride all the rides, but Baby G is so worth it. Plus Alison doesn’t like roller coasters, so this year we’ll be able to shop and do other things while Julie and Ashley take all the drops, twists and turns! We’ll be visiting all the Disney Parks and both Universal Parks. It’s going to be our longest trip with the most parks and the most races. Plus it’s our last one without little one’s tagging along, so we’re doing it right! Bring it on runDisney…we’re ready for you.

16 Week Bumpdate

Another Friday and another week of being pregnant! I still haven’t found that I enjoy being pregnant, but I love that little Baby G is growing and healthy inside me! My bump is still pretty little bitty, but to me it’s starting to look more like a bump!

How Far Along? 16 weeks

Size of Baby: An avocado!

Weight Gain: Up about 4.5-5lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight

Maternity Clothes: The beauty of wearing spandex to work is comfy and stretchy work clothes! I did decide to retire one pair this week. They’re tight right around the wrong part of my midsection which got uncomfortable pretty quickly! I still fit into my jeans, just need to unbutton them after I eat πŸ™‚

Stretch marks: Not yet and hopefully never!

Symptoms: Headaches, nasal congestion, appetite increase (maybe just from my workouts, who knows!)

Cravings: Peanut butter and jelly, Goldfish, hummus with veggies and pita, all fruits (cold and delicious)

Gender: We find out on February 17th, but only my mom will know until our gender reveal on February 28th!

Mood: So happy! A bit less moody this week. Yay!

Nursery: Hoping to start in March! I have ideas for both boy and girl πŸ™‚

Movement: Possibly! They say you can expect to feel your first movements between 16-20 weeks. Yesterday I felt this little flutter and then again in the same exact spot a moment later. I know it wasn’t gas or digestion, so I’ve decided it has to be! Now I’m just dying to feel them again.

Sleep: Depends on the night. I have about one potty break a night and can’t seem to sleep past 6am, but I’m in bed by 8pm.

Workouts: Did great this week!
Sunday: Rest/lots of walks with the pups
Monday: Tabata class – 6 rounds
Tuesday: 45 minute Spin class
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 3 mile walk with JP and the pups
Friday: Teaching spin class and an arm &ab class this afternoon!
Saturday: Planning to do roughly 10 miles depending how I feel

What I Miss: Running at my normal pace and sleeping through the night!

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? On

Anything making you queasy or sick: Waking up at 4:00am. I’m still feeling a bit of morning sickness on the two mornings that I’m at the gym by 4:45. Not fun that early in the morning and I’m by myself, so no calling in sick!

Best Moment This Week: Feeling my little flutters and spending lots of time with JP since he was able to work from home most afternoons.

Labor Signs: No

Looking Forward To: Seeing Baby G at our doctor’s appointment this coming Tuesday, Baby G’s first flight on Wednesday, and a week at Disney World with my best girls!

Showers, Sunshine and The Book of Mormon

Good morning and happy Tuesday! I’ve decided to make Tuesday the new Monday in my little corner of Blogland. I’m not very good at posting on Mondays apparently. Oh well, se la vie!

I was completely shocked on Friday with the overwhelmingly positive response I got from my first bumpdate post! I’m so excited to share this journey with y’all and I’m glad that y’all are excited to follow along. I’m happy to be into my second trimester, but still awaiting all the positive side effects. Where is this magical energy everyone speaks of? Oh and I still have a bit of morning sickness every once in a while **cough, this morning, cough*. I’m sure waking up at 4am has something to do with it…anyway, enough about that until Friday πŸ™‚

Friday – Showers
This weekend was pretty awesome. I loved having Friday completely off. I was able to run and relax before heading to my parent’s house to plan the gender reveal party with my momma! Some of you were asking why my mom will know next Tuesday the gender of Baby G and I won’t know until the 28th. Well, we’re having a gender reveal party on the 28th and I decided that I want to find out then! Instead of just surprising our friends and family, we will be surprised as well! Only my mom will be in on the little secret. She’s pretty excited. We got a lot of planning done: menu is set, invitations ordered, dΓ©cor planned and we went to the thrift store to get tons of pink and blue dishes, vases and platters. A Friday well spent if I do say so myself! We even finished it off with a mother daughter date to see my high school’s musical Zombie Prom. Since some of my brother’s friends were in it, we wanted to go and support them!

Saturday – Sunshine
After a week of gloom and rain, we had the most glorious 70 degree and sunny weekend. It is February right? Oh yes, it is and spring may just be on it’s way. I spent tons of time outside with the pups reading in the backyard and taking my little hooligans on walks. We went on 3 walks actually. They’re spoiled rotten.

Sunday – Book of Mormon
We started the day with church and errands before relaxing for a bit. This pregnant lady needed to take a nap in order to stay up a bit later that night because I had a hot date. Last Wednesday, I decided that I wanted to go see The Book of Mormon. A friend of mine told me that there were tickets still on sale and it was finishing up this week. I talked to JP and told him that it could be an early Valentine’s date or something. I’m so glad that we decided to splurge and get tickets last minute! I happen to love the theatre. (I did a little acting myself in high school! The Queen of Heart was my favorite role πŸ™‚) JP has enjoyed the few shows we’d been to together and I knew that this would be right up his ally based on everything I heard about it! He LOVED it! And so did I. I laughed so hard and had a huge smile the whole evening. The acting and singing was phenomenal and it has me craving more Broadway! JP and I even talked about some other shows that are coming up and possibly going. Might as well do it now while we don’t need a baby sitter right?!

And here we are again in the midst of another week. Luckily next Wednesday, I’ll be heading to Disney World! Guess I need to get to packing and finishing up my super awesome costumes! More on those soon…

15 Week Bumpdate

This Friday I have something special to share! My very first bumpdate! Which I’m sure you already figured out from the post title. Crazy, I know. First, let’s take a glimpse back at some pictures from my first trimester!

My mom had the idea that I should wear the same outfit each week. I decided to keep it simple and stick with an outfit that will stretch and grow with me! Gotta love my Lulu leggings. Now let’s move onto my first official bumpdate!

How Far Along? 15 weeks
Size of Baby: A navel orange!
Weight Gain: Up a total of 4 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight
Maternity Clothes: Not yet. Luckily I wear spandex to work and all of that is quite stretchy. I’ve been wearing roomier shirts since some days I look like I ate too much! My jeans are still fitting me fine, but I need to unbutton them when sitting after I’ve eaten!
Stretch marks: Not yet (and hopefully never!), but I’m definitely using cocoa butter already to prevent them!
Symptoms: Headaches, lightheadedness when I stand up, mood swings
Cravings: Salty snacks, hummus and veggies esp bell peppers, grapes, smoothies, almond milk. I’ve really been drawn to colder foods the past few weeks!
Gender: We find out on February 17th, but only my mom will know until our gender reveal on February 28th!
Mood: I’m pretty up and down honestly. I’m beyond happy about little Baby G, but man my mood swings are wild. Waking up before 4 am probably doesn’t help much! Today I’m super happy and in a great mood!
Nursery: We’ll start working on that after we know the gender! My mom and I have some awesome secret Pinterest boards and my mother-in-law has offered to help paint and decorate!
Movement: Not yet, hoping it will happen in a few weeks!
Sleep: Getting better! During the week I get about 7 hours a night with a few mid-night potty breaks. It doesn’t feel like enough though, so I sleep in a TON Friday-Sunday!
Workouts: Still rockin’ in. I’m running at least 3 times per week, just a little slower. I’m also teaching my classes and keeping my heart rate in check. Mostly, I just take the high intensity exercises down to the modified level.
What I Miss: A glass of wine here and there or a mimosa at brunch!
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really. I’m quite hungry lately which is a nice change after several weeks of constant queasiness.
Best Moment This Week: Telling my classes at work about Baby G! They were so happy for me, but worried I wouldn’t come back. I let them know that I would be back Mondays and Wednesdays just for them πŸ™‚ and my other clients!
Labor Signs: No
Looking Forward To: Baby G’s first trip to Disney World and 2nd half marathon this month!

It’s safe to say I was bloated week 13 since I shrunk back a little the following week! Though most say that I’m not showing, I can feel and kind of see it! There is a shadow of a bump in some pictures and you can see just a little bit in the pictures above.

I’m going to keep up with these weekly on Fridays because this is such an important part of my life right now! Plus, I know that there are enough people out there that want to know what’s going on with me and Baby G!

Try this Thursday: Running 500

Happy Friday Eve! It’s Thursday and this week I have a solid workout for you to give a try. It involves a few of my favorite things…running and workouts that use body weight. This means you can do this workout in many different places.

The weather in Houston the last 30 days has been all over the place. Some days it’s gorgeous at 70 degrees. Other days it’s rainy, in the 50s, but it feels like 40 degrees. It can be 70 one day and then 50 the next and back to near 80 two days later. No joke. I know that the weather is crazy this time of year across the country, so if it’s nasty out, you can do this workout inside: at home or at the gym. Or if it’s beautiful, take it to the park or a nearby track. You won’t be disappointed.

Perform each exercise for 10 repetitions, then run! If you’re stuck inside your home without somewhere to run, try mimicking jump roping or doing jumping jacks for about 3 minutes. If you’re at the gym or have access to cardio equipment, use a treadmill or elliptical. A bike is always a lower impact option if running isn’t something you’re capable of. It’s all about combining the cardio with the strength exercises to increase your endurance and calorie burn!

If you are able to get outside, run for 0.2-0.25 miles or a few minutes. Long enough to get your heart rate up and breathing hard. The faster you run, the high intensity you’re performing and the more impact it will have on your fitness in the future!

Repeat the entire workout for 5 rounds! You can start with 2-3 rounds if you’re a beginner and work your way up to finishing the final 5 rounds. You have to start somewhere right?

Questions about any of the exercises? Just let me know! Feel free to ask me on the blog, or shoot me an e-mail. I want to make sure you know what you’re doing and how to do it!

Superbowl Weekend + Happy Disney Month!

Happy Tuesday! Look at me, still trying to blog on a Monday and not quite making it until Tuesday! It’s officially February which means it’s Disney Month! But I’ll get to that in a minute. First a quick weekend rewind…

Friday I…

  • taught spin class.
  • ran 4 miles.
  • hung out with my hubby and puppies.
  • grilled dinner, snuggled on the couch and watched tv. Exciting I know.

Saturday I…
  • woke up early {since I can’t sleep in any more!} and went for a 6 mile run.
  • lounged around, took the pups on a walk
  • demanded Freebirds for lunch…again! What Baby G wants, Baby G gets!
  • did absolutely nothing the rest of the day. It was glorious!

Sunday I…
  • went to Chandra and Michael’s church and loved it!
  • followed up church with brunch of course!
  • went to Sugar Land to hang out with the fam
  • Super Bowl party at my parent’s friend’s house! So great to see everyone and cheer against the Seahawks…boo Seahawks!

Not the most enthralling weekend, but at least I got some pictures! Let’s move on to something far more exciting and important…
…Disney month! The past 4 years I’ve gone to Disney World to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon. This will be my fifth year and I’m more excited about this year then any other year! Each year has gotten better and better as we have figured out how to make the most of our long weekend. This year, we’re going from Wednesday night to Tuesday evening and I’m pumped! We’re going to all 4 parks plus Universal Studios! This is our longest trip to date and I know it will be fabulous. Not only are we there longer, but we’re running more. I’m going to tackle the 5K, 10K and half marathon to complete the Glass Slipper Challenge! Bring it on Cinderella I’m ready!
I’ve got my costume ideas and supplies ready and I’ll share with y’all who I’m going to be and how to make the costumes as the month goes on! I’m so excited I just can’t hide it πŸ™‚
Who are my other Disney freaks out there? Have you ever run a Disney race? Or are you thinking about it?
