Travel Tuesday: Norway Part 3: Bergen

I promise these are the last of the photos from my Norway trip. Then I’ll get back to blogging about my normal, fun health & fitness jazz!

I last left y’all with our 7 hour road trip from Lillehammer to Fonnes (outskirts of Bergen).

Day 5:

I woke up that Monday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed. Oh and it was a few hours before the others woke. I decided to lace up my running shoes and go for a nice leisurely jog to explore the area that Anna Lise grew up!

I was out and about for 30 minutes or so before heading back to the cabin. It was a beautiful sunny day with not a cloud in the sky, but it was quite windy…and hilly! I realize that hills have nothing to do with weather, but it does have something to do with why I didn’t feel like running anymore.

The rest of the day was relaxed and just what we needed. We went to the grocery store to get some food for lunch, Ole cooked for us and for the most part we hung out, played cards and watched soccer!

That evening, we walked down to the water for some crab! Fresh crab! Charlotte’s cousins’ caught rock crab and boiled it in nothing but seawater. While it was cooking up, we played with the pups and shielded ourselves from the wind!

The next part was the best! We took some rusty, old hammers and crushed the claws for the freshest seafood I’ve ever had!

The rest of the night was spent watching the good ol’ USA play soccer. The game didn’t start until midnight. Let’s just say I didn’t last too long. Besides, I needed my rest for our last full day in Norway!

Day 6:

We were all up early and loaded into the car to head to Charlotte’s apartment in Bergen! This is the day I was most excited about because we were going hiking in the mountains!

We went on a roughly 2 1/2 hour hike starting at Charlotte’s apartment and ending at the top of one of the seven mountains surrounding Bergen.
JP wasn’t feeling the greatest and clearly I was feeling awesome.

At the top of our climb I found a troll! I love the Norwegian trolls! When I’m in Norway, they remind me of Disney Epcot. When I’m at Disney, they remind me of Norway and Charlotte 🙂

Now seriously, check out this awesome view!

Did I mention that there was ice cream at the top of the mountain? Along with the troll and playground, there was a touristy shop and they had ice cream. Just what I needed after a sweaty climb!

Of course the wind picked up and it was a bit overcast after we climbed so some wandering and coffee was necessary before getting ready for some shopping and a night on the town!

Charlotte and I headed out while the boys napped. We hit up some shops and bought just a few things before the gents joined us for dinner.

Our final meal in Norway (and only our second meal that we ate out) was amazing. I had muscles, shrimp, calamari and scallops in a white wine, garlic and chili sauce. Oh my yum it was amazing. Top that off with some wine among friends and that’s what I call a wonderful dinner.

We rounded out our trip at a bar for quiz night. Yes, we went to a Norwegian trivia night. It was highly entertaining and incredibly challenging. Especially when you have people translating for you! Luckily a few of the rounds were song related. And they were in English. For the win!

Over all it was quite an amazing trip. We were up at the crack of dawn to get JP and I to the Bergen airport on our final day. We then flew from Bergen to Oslo, Oslo to La Guardia (NY) and NY to Houston. Home sweet home. Coming home was bitter sweet. I already miss Char, Ole and all the Vorkinns so much. I can’t wait until we get to see them again and I know that JP will absolutely find ourselves in Norway again in a few year. Until then Norway…

If you missed them, check out part 1 and part 2!
