Happy Howloween!

Until then, I’m going to lay on the couch and watch all the Halloween movies on t.v. I can’t kick whatever is wrong with me. Dear sore throat and cough…go away now. On the plus side, this may be the best way to spend a rainy Halloween.

Totally Tubular Puma Inspired Halloween Workout

As a fitness professional, I have the privilege and pleasure of wearing workout clothes all day, every day. I mean, my New Year’s Resolution was to wear more spandex. It’s safe to say, I’ve been successful. Since I’m teaching classes and training clients, I generally have to change at least once a day. This means I need a ton of workout clothes and I’m kind of picky because I want to be comfortable being on my feet all day!

I was really excited when Puma teamed up with Fitfluential and provided me with a top, bottoms and shoes! Below I’m wearing the Tech Performance Long Tank and the Tech Performance Slim 3/4 Pants.

The tank is great! It’s long so it covers your rear while working out. It’s lose so you have freedom of movement and you don’t have to keep tugging at it! The one thing about it is that the arm hole area is a bit large and slightly awkward. Not a big deal though, just throw on a cute sports bra underneath and you’re good to go!

The pants are a moisture wicking material and they fit like a glove. I’m usually very picky about the length of my pants and I don’t really like the ones that come just below the knee. I feel like they ride up over my knee and make my knee pits uncomfortable. Not these.  Seriously y’all! These slim fit pants actually have a slight flare at the bottom, so they are not tight below the knee. This keeps them from both riding up and agitating the back of my knees! I’ve worn these to train people as well at teaching step and cycling.

The shoes are the Puma FormLite XT Ultras. They are super light and flexible. In fact, they’re easily the lightest shoes I own and they feel like socks…with a supporting bottom of course. For such a light show, the cushioning and support is noticable. While some may find these to be great minimalist running shoes, I need some additional support for running because of my high arches and the fact that I run on the outsides of my feet. Even though I don’t run in them, I’ve gotten plenty of use from them! I’ve found the FormLite’s to be great for teaching cycle classes, training my clients and for workouts around the gym. It also helps that they’re really cute. I love the purple and blue colors mine came in, but they also come in black/peach {Halloween colors!} and white/teal/lime green.

So today I have an extra special surprise! A totally tubular Halloween workout! Have you ever used resistance tubing before? Most gyms have tubing available for you to use or you can easily get one for yourself at Wal-mart, Target or any similar store. {Mine’s from Target!} There are different strengths of tubing from light to heavy. This allows you to progress to higher resistances.

Below is an awesome workout using nothing but you and resistance tubing! It’s a full body workout inspired by Puma!

Will I absolutely love Halloween. {I love dressing up, but don’t care for Halloween that much anymore. I guess I don’t have good parties to go to? Maybe I’ll love it again when I’m a momma!}
Will I stop online shopping. {It’s just so convenient and there are so many cute online shops…with the best deals!}

Will I regret my decision to become a full time fitness professional. {My clients this morning really just made me feel great and they resigned for another 3 months!!!}
Will I regret running a race. {...even if it’s pouring outside, my feet are water logged and my stomach is in knots. I still feel good about running and proud I pushed through!}
Will I not be competitive. {I really don’t like losing…like in Fantasy Football. I’m not pleased that since I lost my husband is now in 3rd and I’m in 4th by only 1.1 points. Not cool.}

Football + Running = ?

As always, another weekend has come and gone and I need another day or two to recover from my weekend. If only weekends and weekdays were reversed. I think I’m onto something there. Lucky for me, I don’t have clients until this evening 🙂

Onto this weekend. It involved two of my favorite things. Football and Running. I even got to see my parents and JP’s parents. Pretty awesome if you ask me!

Football was awesome. We beat Vandy and have another win under our belt. It was great seeing our defense by this game since they forgot how to against Auburn. We went back to Houston Saturday right after the game to get prepped and sleep before our race! The sun took it out of us, so an early bedtime was necessary.

Sunday we were up bright and early for the race. As we drove to the parking garage, the Heaven’s opened up and started pouring. The race was postponed, but we still ran. Despite the rain and a potty break, we didn’t do to bad!

Chandra, Melanie, JP and I all ran together which made running in the rain WAY better. Full race recap to come later this week for sure! I can’t believe in four short years, I’ve managed to run so many races. Some are worse than others and some make me question my sanity, but I still love it in the end.

Unfortunately, running in the rain took it out of me. I mean seriously. I ended up with a serious migraine last night and laid in bed started around 3:00pm. It sucked. Today is still rough, but I’ll make it through. Nothing a little coffee, rest, DVR and puppies can’t fix. Or so I hope.

Flashback Friday: Roasted Pumpkin Seeds!

In honor of Halloween next week, I’m doing a flash back post. No, I’m not going to recap my Halloween costumes past…I already did that this week. Instead, I’m going to flashback to a post I wrote back in 2011. My blog was a lot smaller back then and I had really just found the blogging community that fall. For some reason, this particular post has blown up on Pinterest in the past week! Since Pinterest finds it useful, I thought my lovely readers and friends would appreciate it to. So here is a re-post of my Roasted Pumpkin Seeds! Just in time for you to carve your pumpkins and pick the goopy seeds out!

Spicy Pumpkin Seeds (Source)

Spiced and savory snack


  • 1 cup of pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tsp Worcester sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp of chili powder
  • 1 tbsp melted butter

Directions:Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Mix all of the ingredients together in a baking dish. Bake for 45 minutes, let cool and enjoy!

Sweet Pumpkin Seeds (Source)

Sweet, salty and delicious similar to kettle corn

  • 1 cup of pumpkin seeds
  • 1 1/2 tbsp of butter
  • 1 tbsp of sugar and a dash of salt
Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Mix seeds, butter and sugar together in a bowl. Spread out along a foil wrapped baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt then bake for 25 minutes, let cool and enjoy!

So if you’re going to carve a pumpkin this weekend, don’t just throw away the seeds! Scoop ’em out, separate them from the goo, wash them off and prep them for a tasty treat!

The Long Run: Pre Run Fuel

Distance running can seem very daunting, but believe it or not, you can do it too! Ready to train for your first half marathon? Or maybe you’re about to tackle your 10th half or even a full! Join in on The Long Run for different tips and tricks for before, during and after to make it through your long run while feeling your best.

We’re taking a step back this week and focusing on what you should eat before your run since we talked about post run eats last week! Runners can generally attribute their great (or poor) performance to what they do (or don’t eat) before their runs. Now I’ll tell you what I eat, but more importantly what your body generally needs before a morning run. Remember that everyone is different and you’ll be able to find out what your body wants with a little trial and error.

When it comes to running, carbohydrates are the key to your pre-run nutrition. Even if you’re just doing a few miles, it’s recommended to at least have 4-5 grams of carbs in order to boost your Krebs cycle in the morning. This is what kicks up your metabolism, so the earlier it gets revving, the more calories your body burns through out the day. Thus, 10 grams of carbs before you run is ideal even if you aren’t really one for pre-run breakfast. Good pre-run carbs are bagels, toast, cereal (wet or dry), granola, sports/nutrition bars and fruit.

The amount of time or distance you’re running in the morning should play a big role in the amount/what you decided to eat pre-run. If you’re only going for 20-30 minutes, hydration is more important and maybe water plus orange juice or a sports drink will provide you with the amount of nutrition your body needs. If you’re taking off on a 45 minute run you should hydrate and grab a granola bar or a piece of toast to get your body going. The most important time to fuel up pre-run is when you’re tackling your long distance (Sunday’s for me!). This is when you need to prepare your body for what’s to come. The last thing any runner wants is to bonk due to lack of fuel before or during your run. It is of most importance to figure out just what works for your body on these long run days. In case you’re wondering, here’s my long run pre-race fuel up! I am a big fan of peanut butter toast with sliced banana on top. It can also just be peanut butter toast with a banana on the side or even peanut butter and banana. All of these foods are easy on my stomach and help me get the proper carb-protein ratio that my body craves.

Another factor that should influence what/how much you eat is the amount of time your can allow your body to digest before hitting the pavement. Most runners try to eat at least 1 hour before starting their workout. If you have this kind of time, feel free to eat a bit more before your long run. If you only have about 15-30 minutes to digest, I would definitely take the amount of food you eat down a bit and may intake some additional fluids that are easier for your body to process. I generally eat about 30-45 minutes before my run. I know it sounds hard, but waking up 15 minutes earlier to give your body some additional digestion time can be worth it!

Bottom Line
Carbs are important to fuel your run. They are even more important to get your metabolism revved up in the AM. Try to have around 300 calories of carbs before a long run (9+ miles, intake also varies upon body type/weight). This will give you the energy you need and the foundation to feel better before, during and after your run.

I hope this helps those of you that are wondering what or if you should be eating in the mornings before you head for your work out! I am a big advocate of morning workouts because I am a morning person and I always feel ready to tackle the day after a good morning workout. Work days wear me out and sometimes I just feel like getting home and resting for the evening. Morning workouts allow me to do this without feeling guilty! Take a look at this article from Runner’s World called A Full Morning and maybe rethink breakfast the next time you head out to start your day (workout or not!).

I am simply relaying the knowledge I have from years of running, teaching group exercise, personal training and reading A LOT of articles/books about nutrition and exercise.   • The Biggest Loser! It’s back and I’m so excited!
  • Dancing with the Stars – I love seeing Snookie on the show, she’s too funny. I also love Corbin, Elizabeth and Jack!
  • Revolution – They brought it back! I have to catch up on the last two shows from last season before I watch the news ones, but I’m excited. JP and I have a tendency to really like shows that aren’t brought back for a 2nd season…I really like The Event!
  • Ravenswood – Okay I haven’t watched it, but it’s on my DVR and I’m just waiting for Thursday so I can watch it with Char. I have good feeling about this one!

  • Having time during mid-day to actually get things done. It’s weird working really early and kind of late, but I’m productive during they day! I mean, yesterday I scrubbed the master bath. That’s impressive.
  • Spending so much time with family in College Station and Sugar Land. Being with them just feels so good and make my heart happy.
  • The support of my fantastic husband. He makes me feel so good about myself and the choices I’m making. There’s nothing better than knowing that he always has my back.
  • Running…as always. I’m running a half marathon this Sunday with Chandra and JP my favorite running buddies!
  • Smiling faces from my babies. It let’s me know how much they love me! It’s practically impossible to get a picture of both of them! They always turn out with one of them all blurry. My little wiggle worms.

Looking forward to:
  • 9 weeks until Christmas!!! {Exactly to the day!}

I’m a Mouse. Duh.

So with Halloween right around the corner, I thought I’d take a walk down memory lane at some of my awesome costumes. Dressing up has always been one of my favorite things to do. You better believed I lived a lot of my youth in cheerleader, dancer and princess outfits 🙂 Once in college with all the date parties, crush parties and Halloween, I did my fair share of dressing up. I still have my costume bin that’s packed to the brim!

So there you have it. Plenty of awesome costume ideas for this Halloween. Maybe I’ll wear those bunny ears to the gym 🙂 I think my pirate outfit was by far my favorite. It has a cute skirt to it that you can’t really see above. I also wore it for Halloween my freshman year! If I’m picking from my childhood, I’m going to have to go with Snow White. I looked like a little rock star! I mean, do you see my makeup. That’s stage worthy!

Ah Monday, we meet again. I have no clients or classes to teach this morning, so I’m having a pretty smooth start to the week! Of course, I’d rather it still be the weekend. College Station weekends are always a blast!

So unfortunately, my beloved Ags lost on Saturday. It was a bit of a shock and quite the disappointment. We haven’t lost often in the last few seasons, so we’re a bit jaded. I forgot how losing kind of stings. But like they say, you win some, you lose some. Now we just need to pull through and win the rest! If our defense doesn’t step it up, LSU will eat us alive. I guess we’ll see what happens. On the plus side, my Packers won. The Texans lost…whomp whomp…again.

Five Pictures and One Winner

Happy Friday my lovlies! Guess what? We made it! It was another fun, long week for me, but a bit better than last week. I only taught 6 classes instead of 8 🙂 I’m currently in College Station and I’ve conquered this week’s 12 mile run and you know I refueled properly! {Take a look at Wednesday’s post if you’re confused 🙂} I love having the opportunity to run around my alma mater’s campus. It brings back so many memories.
