Football Friday Five

It’s official. Aggie football begins tomorrow. I couldn’t be more excited! So today I give you my Friday Five all about Aggie football and why it’s so awesome!

1. Tailgating. Friends, mimosas, fun, washers, beer, shot siren, good food, lots of maroon, College Station, having fun like we’re in college again {and feeling it later!} Tailgating is a blast and let’s just say our group does it right. Best friends we could ever ask for ๐Ÿ™‚

2. Aggie Pride and Camaraderie. “There’s a spirit can n’er be told, it’s the spirit of Aggieland.” Seriously, Aggie pride and the camaraderie that comes along with it cannot be matched. I feel so comfortable and at home in College Station. There is an amazing sense of family that draws you in. So many say that as Aggies we are a cult, but really they’re just jealous of the pride we have for our university through thick and thin. I mean I’ve been supporting my Ags since before we were in the SEC and Johnny Football came along!

November 2011

3. Aggie Band at Half Time. The Aggie band is amazing. Their performances never fail to blow my mind. I look forward to watching them every game. Potty breaks don’t happen at half time, they happen before half time. Fun fact: my father-in-law was in the band when he was at A&M. He played the base horn {aka tuba, but he says that’s not what it’s called} through his junior year. Then he was a drum major {one of those guy with batons leading everyone!} his senior year!

September 2012

4. Actually having a winning team. We’re actually projected to be good this year. I’m always a little skeptical because we’ve been projected high and overrated before. We’ve also just been completely off the radar, but I’ve loved my Aggies so matter what. I’m excited to see what Johnny Football will do. Will he pull through and be as strong as last year or fall short? Either way, I’m so pumped about September 14th against Alabama at home!!!

5. It’s football. Enough said. It’s football season. It’s really here and it’s really back. Time for cute maroon outfits. Tailgating. Drinking a few too many. Cheering on your home team. Spending time with friends you don’t always get to see that often. Standing in a scorching hot stadium. Yelling at the top of your lungs. Having fun. And hoping that colder weather will find us soon. Here’s to football!

TBT: Summer’s Past

I recently came across a ton of old pictures that I didn’t realize were on my Mac. That’s what happens when you go from rarely using your Mac {because you have your work computer} to using it every day! It’s like finding cash money in your jean pockets!

Summertime makes me think of traveling, white sandy beaching, big bodies of water, tan lines, sunshine, frozen drinks, friends, family and fun. I also think of heat. Lots and lots of hot days with the heat index over 100. So while I love summertime and soak up all the fun and sun that I can, I am ready for fall. Slightly cooler weather, football, holidays and pumpkin spice lattes.

A Little R&R

Y’all…I needed an escape. Well, I guess need an escape since my escape isn’t quite over. My stress levels have still been through the rood despite leaving my work and I’ve been very busy. I needed a break. A getaway. And I got it. 3 days in Sugar Land at my parents house. No housework. No cooking. Less worrying. More time to enjoy myself.

  • Running & Roads
  • Reading & Riding

Just a little R&R…

Rest and Relaxation is obvious. I needed to sit back, relax and enjoy the show. To me, relaxing is wasting time. I’m a busy body and constantly need to be go, go, going. Kind of like the Road Runner from the Wile E. Coyote cartoon.

Whenever I start to think about having a rest day, I’m all like…

But honestly, I need to make time fo dat. I need to take time to smell the roses and enjoy each day. I need to find some time to do nothing. There’s nothing wrong with that. Something I really need to remember.

Running and Roads were obviously necessary because my me time revolves around running. That is how I destress and have awesome conversations with myself. {And come up with great blog post ideas I might add!} My main problem is that lately I’ve felt like running is a chore. I have to go on my long run. I have to go this far. I have to go at this pace. Sometimes I forget about why I chose to run. Because I am a runner and it makes me happy. So during my R&R week, I’m running without a Garmin or an exact distance/route in mind. I’m running at a pace that feels good for my body without over doing it. You know what happened? I ran 4.8 miles in 40 minutes yesterday. That’s an 8:20 pace which is actually quicker than usual. I felt good and I wasn’t pressuring myself. I found the superstar runner inside of me and she dominated. Without trying too hard I might add.

Reading and Riding and I’m not talking about bike riding. Reading in many ways: for my test and for fun. I’ve been able to sit outside either by the pool or listening to the rain come down. Very different environments, but both much better than my living room couch. I’ve caught up on a few more chapters in my PT text book and I’ve nearly plowed through a new book on my Kindle, Gone in case you’re wondering since I just finished the Maze Runner trilogy! Riding I mean in a different way. I’m trying to “ride” the wave, just go along with the flow. I’m an uptight, type A personality who likes to have control over too much. I’m trying to find a way to just go along for the ride, take what comes to me and not freak out over the little things. I’m far from reaching that point, but baby steps are key. I’m taking one day at a time and focusing on breathing ride now because it’s cleansing and good for the soul.

So today, I’m going to sip my coffee a little slower, lay in the sun a little longer, soak up as much family time as possible and get my hair cut. I’ll probably throw some studying in there as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Not to shabby.

  • Flavor: Delicious! Both flavors have tasted great in each recipe I used them in. They’re also good mixed with almond milk {or your choice of milk product}
  • Texture: Smooth in all smoothies I make. A little gritty when mixed solely with milk.
  • Mixability: Great! I’m not sure if that’s a word, but it mixes very well. I used a Blender bottle when mixing with milk to ensure the clumps are removed. I would recommend putting it into your blender {when making smoothies} after the milk or water so it doesn’t get stuck to the sides which causes clumps!
  • Energy: Tons! I am a firm believer that protein in the morning is a sure way to start your day right. It keeps you feeling fuller, longer and gives you that extra boost you need to get going.

Mania Weekend Shenanigans

Ummm…wow. I don’t even know how to begin to cover everything that I’ve done in the past four days. I had what we’ll call an “extended weekend.” Even though I don’t really have a full time job right now, I still have weekends because weekends mean less studying and I’m not following trainers at the gym. So that being said, I still consider weekends way better than weekdays ๐Ÿ™‚

My weekend started on Thursday afternoon when Charlotte and I hopped in the Great White {my Mazda} and headed north towards Dallas. We pit stopped in Waxahachie for a few hours to visit with Kristin’s family before dragging Kristin along with us up to the Fairmont in Dallas! Luckily we were able to relax some Thursday night, so we totally watched Spice World all snuggled in our king size bed ๐Ÿ™‚ Jealous? From there, the weekend was a whirlwind.

Friday started bright and early. Once I got all registered, I found some of my lovely ladies that I taught with at A&M. Lauren, Katie and I chatted it up until it was time to get started. Here’s what my Friday looked like.

7:30-9:00am ~ Barsculpt
10:00-11:30am ~ Schwinn Cycling: Music to the Max

We wrapped up Saturday with a group dinner at the Iron Cactus. We met up with all of the past and present Texas A&M instructors! It was so amazing to see DeAun who pretty much taught me everything I know about step ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus she’s one of the main reasons I decided to start teaching group exercise. She is such an amazing program director and inspiration. I totally had a blogger fail though because I didn’t take a SINGLE picture!

Sunday was a little less intense. I opted to only go to my first two sessions since I was exhausted.

Then we went to brunch at Bread Winners and I FINALLY got to meet Neely and Amber! Seriously, I have been blog friends with these ladies for about 2 years! They’re even sweeter in person and if y’all aren’t following their blogs {but you probably are because they’re awesome} then go do it now! There is nothing better than finally getting to have that personal interaction with women you feel like you’ve gotten to know so well over the years!  Now I just want to get back up to Dallas so I can spend more time with those two!

After brunch, Charlotte and I headed back to Houston just in time for dinner, our family league Fantasy Football draft and the VMAs. #IwantmoreNSYNC

Now I’m pretty pooped and a little behind schedule. My goals for the next few days are to study, relax and destress. Wish me luck ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t wait to share with y’all some of the information I absorbed this weekend. I need to get it all out of my brain and on paper now!

Dallas Mania, here I come!

Happy Friday y’all! I’m up in Dallas for the weekend having a blast at Dallas Mania!

Dallas Mania is a fitness conference/convention put on my SCW Fitness! Tons of fitness professionals come to get continuing education credits, new materials and learn more about their profession. In the fitness industry, everything is always changing and everyone can learn more.

I’m so excited to see some of the ladies I taught with up at Texas A&M ๐Ÿ™‚

My goals for the weekend are to make new friends, find new music and learn a lot. I’ll be sure to come back and share new workouts with y’all! I’ll be focusing my studies on strength, Pilates, cycling and step since those are the classes I teach and they’ll all help with personal training.

This will be my first fitness convention as an official full time fitness professional and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m ready to learn and expand my horizons! Wish me luck and I hope y’all have a wonderful weekend! Lots of workouts to come for y’all over the next few weeks!

Eleven XI Restaurant and Bar

On Saturday, I was able to attend a blogger even at Eleven XI! It was amazing. I met so many new bloggers and found an awesome new restaurant right around the corner from my house. It is literally a block away. Eleven XI invited our group of bloggers and offered us our first cocktail free along with some delicious appetizers.

Of course in order to attend a blogger event, one must get all dolled up! No complaints here ๐Ÿ™‚ I practically stole this dress from Marshall’s for $7 on their clearance rack! It has a rip in it, but I was easily able to stitch right up. Score for me.

So back to Eleven XI. First things first, let’s talk about the decor and atmosphere. The atmosphere is great and caters to many different tastes. There is an outdoor patio, an upstairs for larger parties, indoor restaurant and bar area. We were seated at the bar and enjoyed the layout and aura. The actual bar top is made out of recycled materials. Take at look at the drink pics below to see the awesome textures of the bar top!
Now let’s talk about the important things: food and drinks. Yum. The first drink was on the house and I decided to try one of their signature drinks, the Eleven Cherry Limeade. Delicious and dangerous. I could barely tell there was any alcohol, hence the danger. Second up was yet another tasty drink that I can’t exactly remember the name of. I went to look it up on the menu, but couldn’t find their drink menu online! But trust me, it was good, and pink, and pretty.

Not only did we get to sample their drinks, we tried various appetizers that were also to die for. Let’s start with my favorite, the braised pork shank {pictured above}. Y’all, I don’t even like pork, but I loved these!

You know what else I don’t like? Oysters. You know what else I really enjoyed at Eleven XI? Yup, you guessed it, Oysters!

Eleven XI has a raw seafood bar including oysters, but we were able to enjoy the baked oysters! I’m not a fan of raw oysters, but baked oysters covered in yumminess are right up my ally!

Eleven XI turned out to be a great restaurant with delicious food, tasty drinks and a very nice atmosphere. The best part is that it is within walking distance of my house and I definitely plan to heading back very soon!

Try This Thursday: Chicken Parmesan Tenders {and a giveaway!}

Happy Thursday my lovelies! Let’s just say that today is much happier for me than yesterday because I will be able to wake up and drink water and eat breakfast! Worst part about tummy testing is not being able to eat or drink before. Luckily, no severe issues were found yesterday, but my doctor is doing a few biopsies to rule everything out. For now I just need to chill out and stress less which is difficult for this type A, control freak, worrier.

So let the not worrying begin! Let’s talk about something that makes me happy. Food. I just love it, though it doesn’t always love me. Luckily, I don’t usually have issues with tomatoes! Red Gold sent me their summer grilling kit! Red Gold is a 70-year-old, still family-owned company that professional and home chefs swear by! They’re hosting a sweepstakes to celebrate the last part of summer and grilling — as it gives away a popular Green Egg Ceramic Grill & Smoker! My father in law has one of these and swears by it! The sweepstakes ends August 30th, so check it out now before it ends ๐Ÿ™‚

Now onto my yummy recipe. It’s not necessarily on the grill, but I have a great grilling recipe that I’ll share with y’all soon!

Chicken Parmesan Tenders


  • Frozen chicken breast tenders {I used Trader Joe’s!}
  • Olive Oil
  • Flour
  • Seasoning Salt
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Spaghetti Squash {Regular spaghetti can be used here!}
  • Red Gold diced basil, garlic and oregano tomatoes


  1. Thaw out chicken tenders. I just leave them out while I’m at work to thaw perfectly for dinner time.
  2. Start with about 1/2 cup of flour in a bowl and add seasoning salt for flavor.
  3. Rub olive oil on chicken tenders. You don’t need too much, just enough to allow flour mixture to stick to the chicken.
  4. Heat olive oil on stove top. Add chicken coated in flour to pan in batches. 
  5. Cook until golden crispy brown and flip. Before removing from heat, make sure your chicken is cooked all the way through.
  6. While cooking the chicken, heat up your spaghetti squash. You can do this in the microwave or oven. Directions here!
  7. Heat up your can of Red Gold tomatoes in another pan and add a bit of Parmesan cheese! I also added a little bit of pasta sauce to thinking up the mixture.
  8. Once the chicken is cooked, serve chicken and spaghetti squash with Red Gold tomato sauce on top and enjoy!!!

Back to the Drawing Board

Welp, I’m back at it again today with the tummy doctor. After some new issues arising over the past several weeks, I had to go back to the doctor yesterday and I have a procedure done. Back to the drawing board.

For those of you that don’t remember or are new around here, I’ve had stomach issues for quite some time now. I started seeing a gastroentrinologist back in 2010 with little luck except being diagnosed with acid reflux and IBS. After returning from Pittsburgh, I found a new doctor {Dr. Karen Woods, she’s amazing!} and she found the H. Pylori bacteria in my tummy. Once that was gone, I was still having some issues, so I was put on the FODMAP Diet. It helped a little bit, but not enough. Fast forward another year, April 2013 Dr. Woods decided to do some additional testing to really get down to the bottom of things since diet changes weren’t going to cut it. Luckily the testing actually provided me with some results and relief. I was diagnosed with a mild form of gastroparesis. When I actually eat the way that my nutritionist tells me to, I feel quite a bit better, so that’s a good start! Unfortunately, some additional issues have arisen lately that could have to do with IBS, but could be something else. My doctor doesn’t want to just let the issue slide, so I’ll be having a ton of fun at the hospital today! I’ll update y’all on more once it’s over. I’m just not looking forward to not being able to eat or drink until after 11:30am! At least I’ll be knocked out for part of it ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s just hope that they don’t find a small knight inside me…or anything else out of the ordinary for that matter!

Christina: Girls, if you are wearing leggings, PLEASE have a loved one check to see if they are see- through, especially when bending over. If the said Transparency Checker can tell the color, type, or existence of undies, please pick another, thicker pair of trousers. You look great, but you are making everyone else feel really uncomfortable. {Amy: this totally cracks me up! Christina recently moved to London and she says she sees this happening all the time!}

Chandra: No snot rockets around other runners, please! I dont like boogies in my face.

The Unspoken Rules of Running

It’s official. Marathon and half marathon training has begun in Houston. Bright and early Saturday morning, I loved seeing all of the runners and different running clubs up and at ’em! I started with a few early miles before meeting up with my club, Runner’s High. The Chevron Houston Marathon and Aramco Houston Half are mid-January, so come August running clubs are in full force. Fall races are actually doable in Houston since summer races aren’t really reasonable unless you’re traveling preferably up north.

With all the runner’s taking over the sidewalks, I thought I’d just talk about some of the unspoken {yet very assumed} rules of running. {Which I am very aware the my running group needs to work on as well! Ooops!}

Don’t be a trail/road/sidewalk hog. There are others around you. If you’re running in a group, don’t run more than 2-3 abreast depending on the width and popularity of the path!

Run to the right. Pass on the left. It’s just like driving a car. It drives me nuts to have to weave around runners that are coming straight at me or running in the middle of the path!

When running on the road, run on the left towards oncoming traffic. This way, you can see the cars coming and know that they see you. You don’t want to be startled by a car coming up behind you, or worse, startle the car!

Don’t be shy. Wave to other runners or say hello. Eye contact or a head nod can do the trick. We all out there and in this together!

Follow the traffic signs and signals. Don’t run into traffic. Yield to cars {they’re bigger than you}. Sounds self explanatory, but it’s easier than you think to nearly dash out in front of a car. Keep your eyes open!

Have fun! You’re probably out there because you love it, so keep at it.
