First Time for Everything

It’s Wednesday, I don’t have anything exciting to say and nothing planned so here’s a fun survey that I found forever ago. You’re welcome 🙂

First thing you do when you wake up in the morning:

Wash my face and brush my teeth!

First thing you reach for when you open the fridge:

Justin’s Almond Butter or Britta jug

First thing you do when you get to the gym:

Warm up on the elliptical or treadmill

Tackling a summer run on the dreadmill!

First thing you do when you get home from work:

Take the pups out and change clothes!

First car:

1996 Ford Explorer. I loved that car.

First accident:

Hoping it never happens…

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up:

An astronaut…at least that’s what I wanted in 3rd grade when we learned about space. Before then I probably was set on being a Disney Princess or anything that would make me the center of attention.

First choice beverage:

Non-alcoholic: Water…I’m like a camel
Alcoholic: Wine…I’m on a white wine kick right now. Savingnon Blanc to be specific

First choice breakfast:

Oatmeal: warm or overnight oats. With lots of Justin’s almond butter added!

First choice dessert:

ICE CREAM! I’m sticking with almond and coconut ice cream though since I am avoiding most dairy for my tummy’s sake!

Go buy it now. Seriously life changing.

First song that comes to mind:

Macklemore: Thrift Shop. I can’t get it out of my head.

First major purchase:

Brand new full bedroom set when the hubs and I got married!

Our amazing king size bed at out home in Pittsburgh. More pics here!

First job:

All-Star Cheerleading coach for the Texas Twisters! I was finally 16 and a junior in high school. One of the best jobs I could have asked for!

First time you flew on a plane:
While I don’t remember it, it is something I’ll never live down. I was baby/toddler {don’t remember exactly how old…Mom?} and my mom was taking me to New York or something like that. The flight attendant thought I was adorable {of course} and gave me some chocolate. I decided to share/wipe my hands on the lady in the white suit next to me. Let’s just say, my mom was mortified. The lady was pissed. And I was probably letting the lady know that white pant suits aren’t cute. Sorry, I’m not sorry.

I honestly don’t remember where I saw this post. I know I saw it somewhere, but I copied and pasted the questions into a post with the intent to do it months ago! Oh well, it made some something entertaining on this hump day 🙂 Have a great Wednesday y’all!

Share an answer {or two} to some of the questions above with me!!!

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Good things come…

…to those who chase their dreams.

This I know.

via

Chasing your dreams is far from easy…

via
…it’s absolutely terrifying. But worth it in the end.
You’re never too old…
via

…to realize what you want to be when you grow up.

It’s never too late to dream BIG!

The choice is yours…

via

…so get up and go.

Until next time…

Weekend {lack of} Shenanigans

Guess who has two thumbs and successfully had a kind of lazy weekend?!? This girl!!!

Seriously, for once I didn’t over do it or over commit. I was in bed Friday by 9pm. Up and at ’em at 5am for an early morning, rainy run with Chandra followed by lots of cleaning and hanging out at Ashley & Tyler’s while the pups got as muddy as possible. Sunday I studied, relaxed and watched t.v. before heading over to my parents for some pool time and yummy dinner! Not too bad right?

one. Still ran with Chandra despite the monsoon! It started raining right when we met up at the park!
two.  Post run selfie 🙂 Nice and wet outside
three. Yummy coconut grits recipe that I’m now obsessed with. Recipe coming soon.
four. My baby girl being a cleaning helper by watching her puppy brother
five. My new Toms on the way to Ashley & Tyler’s!
six. Princess Maggie lounging on Sunday morning
seven. My little swimmer with his grandpa! He seriously love the water.
eight. Cheesin’ with my boy
nine. Emma loves her nephew dog.

Now onto last week’s workouts!

Sunday: Rest/Active Recovery / Taught Step
Monday: Strength + Stretch / Strength + Stretch + 3 miles
Tuesday: 3.5 mile run / OFF
Wednesday: Strength + 3 miles / Strength
Thursday: 35 min tempo run / OFF
Friday: Rest / 5 easy miles
Saturday: 7 mile run / 6.25 miles in the rain

Planned Mileage: roughly 17.25 miles
Actual Mileage: 14.25 miles

Now, I’m not one for excuses, but it’s been a rough few weeks. Big things are coming my way though. I can feel it. Now it’s time to get back on track. I have a feeling this week is going to be a good one!

Don’t forget to enter to win a Nathan handheld water bottle! It’ll definitely help conquer those hot summer runs!

Happy Monday y’all!

Fitness Friday: The Long Hot Run Necessities {& a giveaway!}

Happy Fitness Friday! Guess what y’all, it’s HOT outside. We are smack dab in the middle of summer and nothing sounds better than a pool, bikini and cold drink in my hand. Unfortunately, I don’t have a pool, I have to work and I don’t always have time to lounge around like a princess. Oh and I have to get my workout on.

Since I’m currently training for the Zooma Cape Cod Half Marathon, I still have to squeeze in my long runs despite this nasty heat! Here are my go to, MUST HAVE long run necessities to get me through running during Texas summers!

Long Run Hot Weather Necessesities

Clothes

  • Tops: Light weight, dry fit shirts are a must. Preferably not something too clingy. I love my Lululemon and Nike tops for this. So comfortable!
  • Shorts: not to clingy, nice and light, ready for sweat. I love my Lulu Run Speed Short as well as my Nike and Brooks running shorts. No long shorts or capris during the summer for this girl.
  • Socks: Dry fit, hot weather running socks. I like Target’s Champion brand as well as Power Sox!

Shoes

  • Mizuno Wave Riders…I’ve moved onto the 16’s from my 14’s and 15’s. Wasn’t too sure about them at first and now I’m in love.
  • Mizuno Wave Sayonara: an awesome, more minimalist shoe. Check out my review here.

Accessories

  • Headbands: I already have sweat dripping down my face, so I’d rather not have my fly away baby hairs plastered to my cheeks. Bic Bands and Sweaty Bands are my go to headbands of choice!
  • Water bottle: I NEED to run with water. It isn’t an option especially with the humidity and my asthma. I have a Nathan 2 bottle fuel belt that I use for runs longer than 8-10 miles. {Depending on if I know there is a fill up spot or not!} I recently bought this handheld bottle for shorter runs. It’s not too heavy, sits securely on my hand and has a pouch for car key/ID/whateva.
  • iFitness Belt: {Yes I realize a Spibelt is pictured…I couldn’t get a good iFitness belt pic.} Good storage for iPhone/iPod, ID, car key, money, etc.
  • Garmin Forerunner 405: Love my Garmin to pieces. I love knowing how far I’ve gone and what my pace is. Great for training, but it doesn’t help you get un-lost…yes I know this from experience 🙂

And just because I feel like it, I’m offering one of my lucky readers a chance to win one of the Nathan Handheld Water Bottles! {I’m giving this away because I want to, no sponsorship involved. It’s really just because I love running and my readers!} Enter using Rafflecopter below for a chance to win! You know you want to 🙂

Giveaway will be live for one week! Winner will be announced on Monday, August 5th!
Don’t forget to hop on over to Amber’s blog too! She’s having a birthday giveaway with a little help from her bloggy friends including me!

What’s your MUST HAVE hot weather workout gear?

Make Lemonade

Blogger fail. I was supposed to post about Christmas in July today, but my pictures are not edited. Instead of doing that last night, I basked in my own self pity. It was a rough day. I had trouble at the dentist. My eye was in A TON of pain from something wrong with my contact. I was completely exhausted. Pretty much I could find anything to complain about.

I think I need to make some lemonade. While I haven’t been a Debbie Downer on the blog too much, this year has been harder than others. Don’t get me wrong, I am beyond blessed, but there have been several thing this year that have tried to steal my smile and positivity.

via

Now this is not a woe is me post where I tell you about said crappy life events and struggles. It’s more about how I need to suck it up. I can think of people with way worse hands dealt to them. Not saying that my struggles aren’t struggles. Not saying that my hardships are lesser. Just saying that some days we need to view our lives through a different lens.

Today I’m choosing to view certain things through a different lens. I’m going to make lemonade. And I’ll probably add some vodka. Since I’m not pregnant. Sorry for teasing y’all yesterday 🙂

So that being said, here is a list of positive things in my life that make my heart flutter:

  • My husband
  • My babies, Maggie and Moose
  • My family
  • My friends that are there for me when I need them
  • Running
  • Teaching group exercise
  • Snuggles on the couch
  • Weekends with nothing to do {Like this coming weekend!}
  • Having a job that pays the bills and allows us to do things that we want to do!
  • Traveling
  • A good glass of wine
  • Watermelon
  • Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
  • New running tops
  • Sitting outside on a sunny summer day
  • Working out when I don’t want to and how amazing I feel afterwards
  • Read a good book

So that’s just a few of the many wonderful things that make me happy.

You know what else you can make with lemons? Lemoncello. Maybe I’ll make some lemoncello instead. :)

What are the little things in life that make you happy?

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

The Gougler Family is Growing…

…by two sets of paws! Haha tricked ya! Did you think we were pregnant? Not quite yet. I need a little more time before I jump on that train. One reason is because we adopted a little brother for Maggie!

Meet Moose!

Mr. Moose is a 4 month old lab/terrier mix that we officially adopted as of 5:30pm yesterday! We’ve actually had him since last Tuesday as a trial run. A week long sleep over party if you will! Let’s just say the trial went well. We fell absolutely in love and now Maggie has a little brother! It was so hard to keep him a secret from y’all!

He’s just a doll and Maggie is obsessed. She loves to follow him around and play with him. She is even sleeping in the same room as the kennel on her old bed so she can be near him. It is adorable.

I can’t wait to share more about our little man! Now he can finally make his Instagram debut!!!

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Picture This: Sweet Summertime

I had another post planned for y’all on this lovely Tuesday, but life got in the way and pictures did not make it from my Mac at home to Blogger. So instead, y’all get to see all those iPhone pics that never make it out of my camera roll. So here is summer…

***Lots of pictures, completely out of order. It doesn’t matter, because this is summer.***

Chandra asked me to be a bridesmaid!
Kicking off summer with a European adventure!
New gym membership. Summer heat = Indoor workouts
My city 🙂
I wanna see it again!
Take me back to Palma!
My loves. My heat.
Never enough pool time.
Never enough sister time for that matter.
It’s bikini season.
Water wars against the boys.
Seester bathroom pics.
Fresh summer salads.

If you could capture summer in one picture, what would it look like?
Mine would be outside by the pool with my family and pup {and probably a drink in hand!}

Happy Tuesday my lovelies!

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Extravaganzas, Mimosas, Sleepovers and Dates!

Hola my lovelies! It’s Monday. New start to a new week. So instead of complaining about how sad I am that the weekend is over, let’s just have a chat about how fun this past weekend was!

one. The most necessary thing on a bad Friday. Margaritas. Yuck day at work + hubs getting off at 7pm + STARVING = Necessary Margarita at El Tiempo
two. Post Saturday morning run pancakes! Ran 6 miles with Chandra before whipping up these beauts!
three. My little girl posing for the camera.
four. Mimosas at the Bridal Extravaganza! We ended up being there from 11am to 3pm!
five. Me and the bride to be, Chandra!
six. Just showing my love of mimosas 🙂
seven. My husband takes attractive pictures.
eight. Dinner with friends at Ninos
nine. Sleepover party in the living room since our upstairs A/C is out! GROSS.
So in a nutshell, Friday sucked. Saturday included running, Bridal Extravaganzaing, mimosaing, and dining at Ninos! Sunday was filled with studying, lounging, teaching step and dating my husband.

Those of you that follow me on Instagram know that I set up a Christmas in July date night for the hubs and I! I totally stole the idea from Mrs. Erin! Jared planned the night for her and I just had to steal the idea! So much fun. More details from the entire date to come!

One more thing before I go…since I’m officially in training mode, I figured I could use Monday as a recap of my previous week’s workouts to keep myself on track! Here’s what last week looked like and what actually happened!

Week of 7/14 Step Strength + Stretch 3.5 mile run 3 mile run + Strength 6 x 400 @ 5K pace Rest    5K Race or 6   mile run
Actual Step 30 min PT + Stretch OFF 30 min PT + 6 x 400 @ 5K pace  3 mile run 1 hr Boot Camp    6 mile run

So not bad overall! I missed one run and added in boot camp on Friday! I’ll consider last week as a win!

10 Reasons why you should RUN!

1. It is a cheap(er) form of therapy. At first you just need a few things to get started: shoes, workout clothes, water. It gets more expensive the more you become obsessed.  At least when you finish a race you get some bling instead of a bill.

2. Running clothes are super cute. You know you want some.

3. The more you run, the better you look in said workout clothes. Seriously, you will be working muscles you didn’t even know you had. Just wait until you get those tones calves and quads!

4. You will meet tons of awesome people through running clubs and can have an official “running buddy” or group.

5. If you blog, you can meet up with other awesome bloggers that run! You can even find them in different states dressed as various Disney Princesses!

6. You will learn to push your body beyond what you thought was its breaking point.

7. Crossing the finish line of your first race is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Crossing the finish on a half marathon or marathon (no matter which # it is) is also one of the best feelings in the world.

8. You won’t kill your husband (or significant other) Running is exercise. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t kill their husbands. They just don’t!

9. Mimosas, cupcakes, wine, ice cream, burgers, chips, insert your guilty pleasure here will feel way less guilty…in moderation of course!

10. Most importantly, you will embark upon the journey of a lifetime. Cheesy I know. But seriously, I ran my first half marathon nearly 4 years ago today and I can’t even begin to count all of the blessings and benefits it has brought to my life.

My awesome 3:45 running group in Runner’s High before the Houston Marathon!

So you think you aren’t a runner or you don’t like running? Give it one more try. Think of all the great things about it. And if you still don’t like it…I guess try swimming, biking, lifting, anything that gets you up and moving. But running will still be the best…not that I’m biased or anything.

I challenge you to get outside and just do something this weekend. Maybe give running another go or maybe just take a long walk. In the end, it’s all about being active and finding passion in some sort of physical activity. Did you know that only 31% of adult partake in the recommended amount of recreational physical activity a week? I’m talking only 3-4 times a week for 30-60 minutes. It’s crazy! So be one to help increase the statistic. Get out there and move 🙂

What activity are you going to do this weekend?
What’s your favorite form of exercise?

Summer Eats + A Smoothie Recipe

It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy right? Wrong. Now that I’m a grown up I still have to work. I still have to keep the house clean. I still have to do dishes and laundry. I still have to go on with life as normal. No more summer break. No more wasting my days soaking up the sun by the side of the pool. {Okay I so do that on the weekends.} The only different is that it is H.O.T. Thank God for air conditioning. When it’s that hot out, the last thing I want to do is cook a hot meal or eat a hot meal and trust me, I love to eat. So here are a few of my go-to foods during the sweatfest that we call summer in Houston.

Smoothies!
I love smoothies. They’re easy on my tummy and allow me to get servings of fruit, veggies and protein! I posted one on Instagram last week that received lots of great feedback, so here’s the recipe.

What you need:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop of your favorite chocolate protein powder
  • 1 scoop of almond butter
  • 1 scoop of Nikki’s Cake Batter Coconut Butter {any other coconut butter will work, but you should go buy this stuff!}
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk {or other milk of choice}
  • Optional: a few ice cubes
  • Optional: a handful of spinach

Directions:
Gather all ingredients. Dump into blender. Blend well. Pour into super cute mason jar. Add a cute straw. Enjoy and be glad that you didn’t have to turn on the oven!

It’s as simple as that! I’ve made this for lunch a few times and it’s nice and filling! Plenty of protein from the powder and almond butter and adding spinach gives you much needed veggies and nutrients!

My other go to summertime foods are:

  • Peanut butter and banana sandwiches or toast
  • Salads! As long as my stomach is having a good day. Greek salads are my favorites! This one has feta, tomatoes, capers, portobella mushrooms and balsamic vinegar dressing! Oh and a nosy puppy on the side.
  • Carrots and hummus
  • Green juice. I tried some from Trader Joe’s that was delish!
  • Fresh fruit! I’m on a total watermelon kick right now.
  • Taco bags! While it is a warm dish, you can at least cook a big batch and freeze the rest in baggies so you don’t have to cook multiple times. You can find the recipe here!

What are your favorite summertime foods?
Do you have an awesome smoothie recipe I need to know about?
