HELP! What’s in a Name?

Okay friends, here’s the deal. I seriously need YOUR help on this one. I’ve been toying at this idea for a few months and I can’t come to a decision!

I’ve been blogging for 2 years now. When I started, I barely read any other blogs, didn’t know about the amazing blogging community and I didn’t really have a direction for my blog. I blogged because I wanted to update my family about our life in Pittsburgh – 1400 miles away. Enter, A Glimpse of the Gouglers. It made sense, I liked the whole “G” concept. It worked!

Here I am two years later and at a very different point in my “blogging life.” I know what I like to right about: fitness, food, fashion, running, life and love. I know it’s a still a bit all over the place, but who’s life can truely focus on one realm? {Certainly not this scatterbrain.}

So here’s are the real questions…

Do I consider changing the name of the blog or am I in too deep?
Will people “forget” me if I change the name?
Does it really make a difference if I make a change?
Should I stick with what I’ve got?

To be quite honest, if I do decide to change the name, I’m not sure what it would be! So if you think I should step forward and make the change, I’m open to ideas and suggestions!

Seriously though y’all, I NEED your input. Help me!!!

My Fitness Story

Once upon a time, I was not as into health and fitness as I am today. Once upon a time, I was a tall, thin cheerleader who ate ice cream, burgers and fries like it was my day job. Once upon a time, I went to college and things changed.

Okay so the start to my story probably isn’t much different from any high school athlete’s to be honest. It’s what happened in college that changed my view of how I treat my body. {I’m still working on treating it better, I’m doing okay, but not great!}

Like I said, in high school I was always lean. I head been in dance/gymnastic/cheerleading since I could walk. All of these sports require an incredible amount of physical ability, determination and body control. I was always active and the fact that I grew over a foot between 12 and 14 helped me maintain a strong, lean frame. Once I turned 16, I was able to use the gym at our Community Club and would go up there to run/bike/elliptical. Aside from that and cheerleading practice {which included running and a lot of core work} that was the extent of my workout plan.

Enter college. I continued cheering. Gained probably the freshman 8-10 pounds, I was lucky and I attribute this to the fact that I was still cheering {3 nights/week} and tumbling {1-2 night/week}. I started to poke my nose into A&M’s fitness center {the REC}, but wasn’t found in there more than 1-2 times per week. This lasted through my sophomore year.

Junior year, I quit cheering. I continued to tumble at BVGC {awesome gymnastics facility for anyone in Bryan/College Station who’s interested!} and my girl Julie asked me to go to a group exercise class with her at the REC. Thank God she asked me! {Taking classes also brought Julie and I so much closer}As dramatic as it sounds, it changed my life. Julie and I started attending classes pretty often and were considered “regulars.” It’s honestly so cool when an instructor knows your name because you go to their class so often. We took a class that the director of Group Ex at the REC taught and started to get to know her pretty well. At the beginning of springtime, she was asking me if I wanted to sign up for the Group EX instructor classes, so I did! It was a six/eight week course that taught you how to teach! Then at the end you could decide if you wanted to audition to be an instructor. I’ve made quite a few good decisions in my life {choosing Texas A&M University, saying “yes” to the hubs, changing my major} and this was one of them.

I fell in love with teaching fitness. I loved watching my regular students improve weekly. I loved when people would come tell me what a great class I just taught. I loved learned how to teach different formats. I loved getting paid to work out. I loved spending time at the gym. I loved learning how to teach new formats. I loved coming up with new moves and new combos. There is so much to love about fitness as long as you find you niche.

Another thing I loved about teaching at A&M were the friendships that I made. It’s important to have friends that can help you grow and work towards goals in areas that mean a lot to you. It was like having a huge group of workout buddies!

The summer before my final semester at Texas A&M {I took an extra half victory lap} is when I started running. It started as a random whim I had to run a half marathon. I finished my first 1/2 that November. It wasn’t until I actually crossed that finish line when I realized I was hooked.

After college, I moved back to Houston and started working out at 24 Hour Fitness and quickly realized how much I missed teaching. Luckily I was able to jump right back in when an instructor at 24 Hour recommended me to the Group Ex director. I ended up getting my own class at the downtown location once a week and I subbed every so often when I felt like it. I taught there until I moved to Pittsburgh and of course I was still running.

In Pittsburgh I decided not to teach since I couldn’t transfer to another 24 Hour since they aren’t in the state! Instead I focused my year on running. The weather in Pittsburgh is much more ideal for running and I could run outside all year round. I ran 4 half marathons the year I lived in Pittsburgh…the most I’ve done in a year. I also took a lot of strength training classes with my friend Maria to improve my strength and to keep getting new ideas for teaching when I returned.

Over the past year back in Houston, I haven’t started teaching again. I haven’t even gotten a gym membership {I had one in Pittsburgh}. I did do bootcamp for several months in the winter/spring until it got too hot outside. The second half of 2012 was solely focused on running and training for my full marathon. Training for a marathon is a lifestyle change. You have to say no to happy hour on Friday night knowing you have an 16+ mile run on Saturday at 5:30am. You spend the rest of Saturday waddling and hoping you don’t drink too much at the tailgate because your tolerance is WAY down. It was totally worth it to me. 100% I would and will do it again. But right now I’m stuck. I need to be back in the gym. I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to teaching though. I’ll probably start with a membership and try to work teaching into my schedule soon.

Ultimately I do not want to work at a computer for the rest of my life. When the time is right, I would love to teach a few classes a week and get my personal training certificate…which I’ve been putting off. I don’t know when the time will be right, but I know it’s not now. I like what I’m doing and I like my pay check even more. One day, I will make the switch. Trust me, I want it too bad to never do it. I’m just waiting for His timing.

So I still haven’t even uploaded my Colorado pictures to my computer…blogger fail. That time I read 3 books in 1 week…

Good morning on this very gloomy, extremely warm and humid Houston day. Despite the crazy, unwinter-like weather, I’m bound and determined to make today a good one. Here’s one way I’m going to do that…talk to y’all about the 3 books I just read. All by Colleen Hoover. She has an amazing way with words.

I absolutely love to read. I love the way I feel when I get lost in a story. I love the emotions. I love that I can plant myself right there beside the characters. I guess you could say it’s sort of an escape. I try to read as often as possible, but let’s be honest, this over-committed, crazy girl doesn’t always have time. My favorite times to read are in the bath tub, on a lazy Sunday, on car trips and on flights. Two weekends ago I had a lazy Sunday and I had 2 flights and down time at the airport this weekend. Somehow this resulted in me reading 3 books. Did I mention I read fast?

This was a beautiful story about young love and finding yourself. If you like plot twists and feeling on edge about what’s going to happen next, this is for you. I was literally hooked from the beginning.



Slammed is the first of a two book series. This is another romance that takes you into the lives of two young people dealing with more trauma and sadness than most people experience. You get wrapped up in every emotion. I was crying at one point and laughing the next.


Point of Retreat

Read this after Slammed. At this point you know the characters, you know what they’ve been through and now it’s time to see how they continue on through life. More trials, more smiles and more life lessons. It shows you that love is never easy, but it’s always worth it.


Y’all, seriously read these books. If your looking for something to read on your next gloomy day, start here. I promise you won’t regret it. All of these books were recommended to me by Lia Joy. Everything she’s ever told me to read I have fallen in love with.

Colorado Weekend Insta-Recap

You want to know the best way to start the week? Get home late from an amazing trip on Sunday night, pass out in your bed and wake up Monday morning almost an hour after your alarm was supposed to go off. Makes for an interesting start to say the least. Not the best start, but I did manage to shower, get ready and still make it into the office by 8:15am. I despise feeling like I may be late. I really despise the way your heart races and stomach drops when you realize that you overslept. I rarely oversleep. Oh well, it’s Monday and I spent the weekend in Colorado. SPD: Valentine’s Day Wreath

Hey y’all! Remember that one time it looked like a glitter bomb went off inside my living room? No? Okay, let’s rewind to Monday then shall we?

Monday evening I was minding my own business watching the Bachelor and crafting for Saw It. Pinned It. Did It. Sounds like a glorious night right? Well it was, but unfortunately my craft went awry. You see, on Sunday I was at Michael’s picking up everything I needed for my next few crafts. I circle the store twice looking for tulle. Well I found some…in the Quincinera section. {I didn’t know there was a section for this, but then again I live in Houston.} Of course it was beautiful and bright pink, and it was cover in glitter. Well, we all know…

Don’t be fooled by the pretty sparkles y’all. It goes EVERYWHERE! Just a fair warning. On the plus side my wreath is super, sparkly, pink and awesome. It doesn’t get much better than that! So let’s get started!

Here was my original Pinspiration. I loved the look of the tulle, but I wanted mine to be a little bit different. Here’s what I came up with!

It’s incredibly easy. Doesn’t require super glue. And you can play with tulle. Win – Win – Win in my book.

What you need:
Styrofoam wreath circle
Lots of pretty tulle. {Sparkle tulle is great, just prepare for a shiny house}

How to make it:
Cut the tulle in strips that are roughly 4-5 inches wide and 12 inches long. This may vary depending on thickness of your Styrofoam wreath.

Fold tulle strips in half. {You will now have 2 ends. The end with both original ends and the folded end.}

Wrap the tulle around the wreath. Open the folded end of the tulle to form a small hole. Feed the original ends through the hole. Pull tightly to secure against the wreath.

Repeat over and over and over again until you cover your entire wreath. You may want to do something awesome like watch The Bachelor while doing this.

Note: Make sure you loop your tulle around the wreath in the same direction. Otherwise it will look funky.

Add your embellishments. I simply added some sparkly hearts on a stick so I just fed it through the tulle. You can also bust out your hot glue gun to glue some details on if you want!

I didn’t take too many pictures because I was too focused on The Bachelor and not getting glitter everywhere. Ooops.

Now get out there and make your own Valentine’s Day Wreath! Who said that themed wreaths were only meant for Christmas??? And I’ll leave you with this…

The Facts of Amy

There are quite a few new faces around these parts, so Whitney’s link up couldn’t of come at a better time. Today I’m going to give y’all, The Facts of Amy.

I am obsessed with time. Seriously being even a minute late to anything freaks me out. I am always early and I don’t know how to arrive fashionably late. I blame it on being the product of two Army vets, one of which is a nurse. Double whammy folks.

I have an engineering degree. I graduated from Texas A&M {also known as the best university in the world} with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution from the Dwight Look College of Engineering. BAM!

I am obsessed with all things Disney. I’ve done the Disney Princess half marathon the past two years and can’t wait to do it again. I love being at Disney World and the child-like aura about it. I love all Disney movies, know the words to nearly all the Disney songs and I’m okay with that. It’ll make me a cool mom one day 🙂

I am a former cheerleader. Not only did I cheer in high school, but I cheered competitively. That’s pretty serious stuff right there. Y’all can laugh and point fingers all you want, but competitive cheerleading is no joke. And yes, I can do a back flip.

I have lived in 5 states and 7 cities, and I have moved a total of 14 times. 5 of these account for the 5 different places I lived in College Station {one for each year of school + an extra semester}.

I’m obsessed with animals and have a membership to the Houston Zoo. I can bring a friend for free if you wanna join 🙂

I run for me. Running is my passion. Not everyone loves it. In fact, most people hate it. Running keeps me grounded, helps me relieve stress and gives me a sense of accomplishment. I think I would be a different person today if I didn’t start running several years ago.

I love to sing. I sing all the time…in the shower, in my car, in front of people, into karaoke microphones and sometimes even dressed as Madonna in front of hundreds of people on cruise ships. I should probably mention that I’m not really a good singer. It doesn’t bother me much.

Yes, that’s me singing on stage dressed as Madonna. I even had backup dancers. Jealous?

I am a huge Harry Potter nerd. True story. I love Harry Potter and I’m not ashamed at all. In 2012, I re-read all 7 books between August and October and loved them just as much as the first 2 times I read them.

I would do anything for my friends and family. They are my everything. They hold me up when I need it, so I would do whatever it takes to do the same in return. I try to always be there for my friends when I would want them there for me. Life isn’t easy and it’s harder alone!

I am a morning person. I love waking up in the morning. My best hours of the day come before noon. This is when I am at my most productive, I am the most alert and I am the happiest. I wake up far too early on the weekends. This is probably why I’m old and go to bed before midnight on Friday and Saturday.

I’m hate being dirty. Even as a child I didn’t like to get messy. I would have my parents stick their feet in the sandbox so I could sit on them. This way my butt wouldn’t be dirty. This trait has followed me through the years. I like being dirty when I do mud runs. That’s about the only time though.

I hate cold cheese. I like cheese on pizza, grilled cheese, queso dip and well that’s about it. I never get cheese on sandwiches, burgers, fries, etc even if it’s hot. If the cheese is cold is a total no go. I hate it. Thinking about people eating cheese cubes gives the me chills and freaks me out.

I am terrified of scary movies and scary stories. I don’t watch them. Period. They give me nightmares. The last scary movie I saw was The Ring. I seriously freak myself out beyond belief. The other night, the hubs referenced “Slender Man” who I never heard of. The hubs compared him to the Boogie Man who I thought lived under your bed. He proceeded to tell me the real stories behind these creatures and I about lost it. He told me these at nighttime. I didn’t sleep well Sunday night. True Story.

So there you have it. Some of the wonderful facts of Amy! I hope you learned something new and that you don’t think I’m a total freakazoid!!!
