530 Donuts

At the beginning of the year, I mentioned that I wanted to write more health and fitness posts on this little blog of mine. Seeing as though I’ve been stuck at my parents house for nearly a month now, I haven’t cooked, so no recipe posts. I’ve done nothing but work, run and google over my new house and all of the stuff I have to do, so no exciting workout posts yet. At least I’ve been running {especially since Houston half is in 3 days!}

Any other runners out there or people who want to get started running? Let me tell you one thing…it’s addicting. I know some of you are shaking your head in disbelief or laughing uncontrollably at that statement. Seriously though, it feels good and you’re only competing against yourself.

Any competitive people out there? Once you go one distance, you want to push yourself and go further…5K…10K…half marathon…MARATHON! I’m serious people! We’re talking about competing only with yourself to make you a better you. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Personally, I run best alone. I like to think of it as my Amy time. Time for me to release my stress, think about all of the little things running around my mind, and just go off at my own pace. Despite the fact that I often enjoy running alone {maybe I just need to find someone who runs at my pace!}. I love the running community. It’s kind of like our little blog world, but for runners, cyclists, and athletes of all types. I know there are several sites out there, but I am a part of The Daily Mile…you can see my widget on the left side of my page! It really motivates me to log my miles, improve my pace and push my limits. They keep all of your stats and since I joined in the summer of 2010:

  • I have burned off 530 donuts! Just saying…this is a pretty awesome stat. I don’t even really like donuts, but it’s still a great motivator! Let’s be honest, nobody ignores the number of calories they burn while working out. That’s probably one of the main things people think about.
  • I’ve ran 0.05 or 5% around the world…not much, but the world is HUGE!
  • I have burned off 28 pounds. Pretty much this has just helped me maintain my weight which I am cool with.

Each year, Daily Mile also configures an annual report for you just to see your most active months, how many miles you’ve entered, as well as some average stats. I’m going to use the report below to amp up my productivity this year and compare it to the report next January.

My goals for next January’s report include:

  • Total distance: 1,000 miles +
  • Average miles per week: 20
  • Workouts: 350

Here are the races I’m looking at running this year:

  • Aramco Houston Half Marathon {January – signed up}
  • Disney Princess Half Marathon {February – signed up}
  • Rock ‘n Roll San Antonio Half Marathon {November – signed up}
  • Nike Women’s Half Marathon {possibly???}
  • Rock ‘n Roll San Diego {possibly???}
  • Chevron Houston Marathon {MY FIRST FULL MARATHON JANUARY 2013!!!}

I really want to go run in California…can you tell? What races are you looking at running this year? Any new runners out there? I’d love to help you get started and offer any tips. For beginners, I definitely recommend checking out a Couch to 5K program. It eases you into running and is an excellent starting point. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions if you don’t want to leave a comment: acgougler@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to get back to you!

Also, if you join www.dailymile.com or if you’re already on there, add me as a friend…Amy G. a runner from Houston, TX!!!

Until next time…
With love and God bless,

Sharing is caring!
